Job summary

Camunda is seeking a Backend Senior Software Engineer on the Data Layer team to advance storage and query capabilities for Camunda 8’s process data, spanning relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch. You will shape data pipelines, improve retention, and ensure scale and reliability across production systems.

You will collaborate with product, design, QA, and support to evolve our data layer while delivering high-quality, end-to-end solutions.

Qualifications

• At least 7 years of backend engineering experience.
• Deep experience with relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Proven track record leading multi-month engineering initiatives.
• Able to investigate slow queries and index usage to root-cause issues.
• Strong communication in a remote-first environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data-layer backend services, spanning relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Own the end-to-end delivery of engineering initiatives with cross-functional teams.
• Evolve how process data is stored, retained, and exposed to customers.
• Invest in performant and scalable secondary storage systems and tooling.
• Participate in L3 support and on-call rotations with SRE and Support.
