Job description

MLSE Digital Labs is seeking a highly motivated Senior Backend Engineer to join the Digital Labs team. This individual will primarily work on the development and management of applications and will report to the Engineering Manager for Applications.

Position Type: Freelance 12-Month Contract

  1. Develop and deploy application solutions using modern DevOps practices and security standards.
  2. Build performant and highly available multi-tenant applications that scale easily to millions of users.
  3. Establish standards and maintain a department-wide body of knowledge on engineering.
  4. Participate in planning, definition, and high-level design of solutions and exploration of alternatives.
  5. Mentor and lead junior engineers throughout the application delivery process.
  6. Collaborate with Infrastructure and Application Engineering teams to define metadata layers, align on technical strategy, and ensure seamless integration.
  7. Provide high-level sizing estimates for new development work.
  8. Design and implement test automation solutions for application testing.

  • Advocate for security standards and micro-service architecture.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and approaches.
  • Knowledge of SDLC practices including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies.
  • Proven ability to take a project from requirements to launch.
  • Experience migrating single-tenant systems to multi-tenant architectures with minimal downtime.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with source control tools like GitHub.
  • Understanding of RESTful, GraphQL, WebSocket services.
  • Experience with relational SQL databases such as PostgreSQL and migration tools like Flyway.
  • Strong software engineering skills in JavaScript / Typescript.
  • Experience with NodeJS frameworks like ExpressJS and Restify.
  • Proficiency with Azure and AWS platforms.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Bamboo, Chef, Maven.
  • Nice to have: Spring Boot, Kubernetes, OpenShift.
