Sera4 is expanding the Cloud Engineering team powering our Teleporte access control platform. We’re looking for an experienced backend developer to design APIs, build scalable services, and contribute to DevOps automation and management.

What you’ll do

• Build and maintain backend services in Node.js and Ruby on Rails (bonus for Go)
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automation, and infrastructure reliability
• Collaborate across hardware, mobile, and product teams to deliver seamless solutions
• Deploy and manage containerized applications using Docker
• Balance backend development with DevOps responsibilities

What we’re looking for

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Expert in Node.js and/or Ruby on Rails development
• Familiarity with microservices, APIs, and distributed systems
• Hands‑on with AI coding tools like Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar
• Solid Linux + Cloud DevOps skills (AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar)
• Proven experience with Docker and CI/CD workflows
• Excellent English communication skills (written and spoken)
• Must be based in Canada and able to come to the Waterloo, Ontario office occasionally
• Local candidates given priority

Nice to have

• Kubernetes, Terraform, or Helm
• Security best practices for SaaS/on‑prem
• Experience in IoT or hardware + software environments
• Familiarity with ISO 27001
