Office of the Auditor General of Ontario
City:Toronto
Job term:1 Permanent, 1 Temporary assignment/contract for 12 months with possibility of extension
The Office of the Auditor General of Ontario (OAGO) is recruiting highly motivated professionals interested in making a difference for the benefit of the members of the Legislative Assembly and the people of Ontario. The OAGO is an independent office of the Legislative Assembly that conducts performance and financial statement audits of the provincial government, its ministries and agencies. We also audit organizations in the broader public sector that receive provincial funding. Our vision is to deliver exceptional value and assurance to members of the Legislative Assembly, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, and all Ontarians through high-quality work that promotes accountability, value for money and effective governance in the Ontario public sector.
The successful Senior Auditor candidate will work primarily in the Commissioner of the Environment's portfolio. Within the OAGO, this portfolio audits and prepares reports on the effectiveness of Ontario programs to: protect, conserve and restore the environment; reduce greenhouse gas emissions; and/or promote energy conservation. Past environment-related performance audits have included topics such as: climate change (mitigation and adaptation), environmental approvals, environmental assessments, species at risk, invasive species, protected areas (e.g., provincial parks), hazardous spills, waste diversion, environmental monitoring and reporting, drinking water, and the management of aggregate resources. The Environment portfolio also annually audits the operation of the Environmental Bill of Rights, 1993 (EBR), a law that gives all Ontarians the right to know about, and be involved in, environmentally significant decisions made by the Ontario government.
