Purpose

As the 3rd Line of Defense, Internal Audit provides enterprise-wide, independent, and objective assurance over the design and operations of the Bank’s internal controls, risk management, and governance processes. We thrive in challenging environments and work with management to address control weaknesses.

The incumbent will work directly with Directors in Canadian Banking Audit in a hybrid office environment (current expectation: 3 days/week in-office, subject to change). They will lead and execute audits across Retail, Business Banking, Commercial business lines, and control/support functions, including Tangerine. The role primarily acts as Officer-in-Charge (OIC) on audit engagements, managing planning, execution, and reporting per department standards.

The Senior Audit Manager supports internal audit activities for Canadian Banking, ensuring all audit activities comply with regulations, policies, and procedures. They bring solid technical knowledge of Canadian Banking policies, products, and data analytics, which can be leveraged to develop continuous monitoring dashboards. They are trusted advisors who use data and expertise to deliver assurance and insights, helping keep the Bank and its customers safe.

Accountabilities

  1. Act as Officer in Charge (OIC) for assigned audits; may serve as Audit Principal (AP) for low to medium complexity audits.
  2. Oversee audit execution, planning, and reporting; understand business processes and risks; develop risk-based audit approaches and schedules.
  3. Gather audit results, identify root causes, prepare/review findings for management, and follow-up on corrective actions.
  4. Support a client-focused culture, deepen relationships, and leverage broader Bank systems and knowledge.
  5. Consider the Bank’s risk appetite and culture in daily activities and decisions.
  6. Plan, document, and confirm project approaches and conclusions in writing.
  7. Write high-standard audit reports within department metrics.
  8. Maintain standards per IIA Code of Ethics and internal policies.
  9. Build relationships with internal/external stakeholders and regulators.
  10. Coordinate with involved groups, review workpapers, document control weaknesses, and communicate findings timely.
  11. Support continuous monitoring activities to stay updated on industry/regulatory changes and systemic risks.
  12. Lead projects such as Continuous Monitoring, Board Reporting, Issue Closure, Investigations, and Strategic Initiatives.
  13. Promote data analytics use, assist peer training, and share knowledge.
  14. Complete required training for continuous learning.

Education/Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years in Retail Banking, Operations, Audit, or Regulatory roles; experience in First Line of Defense or Audit preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian Banking structure, products, regulations, and systems.
  • Post-secondary education required.
  • Experience with auditing methodologies, tools, and software is an asset.
  • Proficient in risk-based auditing standards and techniques.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and coaching skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with data analytics and visualization tools proficiency.
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
