What You’ll Be Doing

As a member of the Enterprise Strategy and Corporate Development team, you will split your time between:

  • Assisting with the management of CIBC’s portfolio of direct investments and fund investments, which will include a full spectrum of planning, monitoring and investment portfolio management activities and administration.
  • Supporting a broad range of valuation analysis.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Coordination: Lead coordination required to complete various attestations, surveys and reports for legal and regulatory matters and as required to comply with internal policies. Lead work required to update various guidelines, policies and procedures maintained by the group.
  • Financial and Valuation Analysis: Support CIBC’s fiscal financial and regulatory reporting requirements related to goodwill impairment analysis and recovery planning by performing comprehensive valuation analysis of existing assets as well as scenario analysis, requiring a strong understanding of key valuation methodologies, corporate finance fundamentals, and foundational capabilities in financial modelling.
  • Reviews: Complete the review of capital call notices for fund investments relative to the terms of our investment documentation to inform whether we should approve funding and lead any necessary follow-up as required with internal and external stakeholders. Take the lead in reviewing and assessing requests for amendments related to existing fund investments and preparing documentation required to seek internal approvals for amendments.
  • Governance: Assist with the ongoing development and execution of improvements to governance practices for investments.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Support the ongoing development and execution of various reports of investments to key internal stakeholders on a quarterly, annual and ad-hoc basis. Prepare materials and perform analysis to drive insights and inform decisions for delivery to senior leaders.
  • Records Management: As required, provide support for records management activities (records identification, destruction, preservation notices) and assist with ongoing compliance of requirements.
  • Ad Hoc Work: Assist with other work being done by the team, including compiling precedent documents for members of S&CD team, conducting industry and company research, preparing presentations or memos, and providing project management support.

Who You Are

  • You have an undergraduate degree or diploma in Finance, Business, Accounting, or other related field (professional designations, e.g., CPA, CFA, CBV are preferred). You have demonstrated a high proficiency in using Microsoft Office tools (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint) to perform and present analysis, drive insights, and inform decisions.
  • You have 3 years or more of relevant experience at a financial institution, accounting firm, pension, private equity or venture capital fund and/or in business valuation. You also employ a solutions-orientation, resourcefulness and ability to quickly learn to advance key initiatives and deliver high quality work in a timely manner with strong attention to detail.
