Senior Associate/Associate Scientist, Biologic Discovery - In Vitro Pharmacology (12 Month Contract) What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will join our bioassay team in In Vitro Pharmacology group at Amgen British Columbia. The site is a research centre of excellence specializing in biologics discovery.

You’ll be part of a dedicated bioassay team specializing in the development and optimization of cell-based assays tailored to support high-throughput screening and characterization of therapeutic antibody candidates. Your contributions will directly impact the identification of molecules with the potential to help patients worldwide.

This position is ideal for a scientifically curious, detail-oriented, and highly collaborative professional eager to advance their technical skills and contribute to meaningful work in a team-oriented research environment.

This is a contract, on-site laboratory-based role and successful candidates must reside in the Greater Vancouver area.

Essential Functions:
  • Design and execute robust cell-based assays to support therapeutic antibody discovery, ensuring high levels of precision, accuracy, and reproducibility.
  • Conduct mammalian cell culture and apply standard bioanalytical techniques, including ELISA and flow cytometry.
  • Operate and maintain essential laboratory instrumentation, such as multimode plate readers, imaging systems, flow cytometers, and automated liquid handling systems.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data with keen attention to detail, and effectively communicate findings through presentations and written reports.
  • Ensure thorough documentation of all experiments and results, supporting data reporting requirements for internal use and regulatory submissions as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field, or Bachelor’s degree in related field plus 2-3 years of relevant hands-on research experience
  • Fluent in English, both in written and oral communications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong background in assay development and screening for therapeutic antibody candidates.
  • Experience with cell-based bioassays such as:
  • Cytokine release assays
  • Cell activation and proliferation assays
  • Phosphorylation and reporter assays
  • Hands-on experience working with primary human cells in assay contexts.
  • Proficiency in operating advanced lab instrumentation (ex. plate readers, liquid handlers)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced lab environments.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with a proactive and flexible approach.
  • Maintain rigorous documentation and data reporting practices to support regulatory and internal quality standards.
