Qualifications

Job Description

The Senior Assayer/Supervisor is responsible for the overall coordination and scheduling of incoming samples from the mine site, prioritizing samples in order of importance, overseeing the production of the laboratory and reporting results to specific mine departments.

The Supervisor is responsible for all activities, operations and staff within the assigned department.

  • Supervise staff to carry out laboratory analysis according to established methods and meeting QualityControl (QC) standards.
  • Schedule workflow through the department so that client deadlines are met in a timely fashion;monitor throughput and performance.
  • Monitor and maintain lab QC standards.
  • Plan and initiate procedures to ensure the company quality program is preserved and oversee qualityaudits.
  • Solve day to day production and process problems within the department.
  • Work in partnership with other supervisors to solve client problems to ensure quality and customersatisfaction standards are met.
  • Train and motivate staff, set goals, review performance and assess training needs, at least once a year.
  • Plan and initiate procedures and systems necessary to ensure the maintenance and improvement of thecompany quality program.
  • Accountable for maintaining production and quality targets and ensuring optimal staff levels to achieveproduction, quality and financial targets.
  • Responsible for designing, coordinating and executing training programs that are consistent withmanagement objectives, includes quality system awareness, continuous technical improvement andpersonnel performance reviews.
  • Ensuring each person within their responsibility has undergone an orientation and has sufficientknowledge for their safety and health while at work.
  • Ensuring that each person has sufficient information, resources and materials to do their job safely.
  • Directly responsible for their area housekeeping and cleanliness on a daily basis.
  • Accountable for routine and non-routine equipment maintenance.
  • Directly responsible for ensuring all safety equipment is in place on a daily basis.
  • May be assigned and asked to co-ordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed.
Qualifications
  • Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma and/or Postsecondary Education in a Science related program or equivalentexperience or training
  • Experience: Minimum 1-3 years of relevant laboratory work
  • experience required.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of previous supervisory experience isrequired.
  • Knowledge of good laboratory practices and good
    management practices.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow workinstructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills including grammer andcomposition.
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multipleprojects in a fast-paced, highly professionalenvironment.
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various types ofcomputer software (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples &lab equipment.
  • Must use good judgment to identify and resolveproblems on the job. When in difficulty refer problemsto his/her Manager for resolution.
  • Advanced level of creativity required in solving routine
    problems.
  • Able to work well under pressure during high (peak)workloads and balancing conflicting demands of highvolume versus the quality of results.
