Overview
The Application Support Specialist will support operational work related to hosting client applications in the shared hosting environment. The role includes operations support, queue management, service request fulfillment, and configuration management. The specialist will provide expertise in middleware services and technologies such as application hosting services, WebSphere, infrastructure configuration, network services, and cloud services. This position will support the larger team in hosting and maintaining over 200 Java applications, performing tasks such as incident intake and triage, change request assessment, implementation, and operational reporting.
Responsibilities
- The Application Support Specialist will support operational work related to hosting client applications in the shared hosting environment.
- Provide operations support, queue management, service request fulfillment, and configuration management.
- Offer expertise in middleware services and technologies including application hosting services, WebSphere, infrastructure configuration, network services, and cloud services.
- Support the larger team in hosting and maintaining over 200 Java applications, including incident intake and triage, change request assessment, implementation, and operational reporting.
Requirements
- IBM WebSphere Application Server.
- Deployment automation with Urban Code Deploy and Urban Code Velocity.
- Middleware monitoring tools such as ITCAM and Dynatrace.
- Cloud technology including OpenShift, Kubernetes, and Ansible.
- Experience with ITIL Incident Management process.
- Experience with ITIL Change Management process.
Skills
- Middleware application suite experience including IBM WebSphere Application Server NDM and Liberty, and IBM DataPower.
- Deployment automation using Urban Code Deploy and Urban Code Velocity.
- Middleware monitoring with ITCAM and Dynatrace.
- Cloud technologies such as OpenShift, Kubernetes, and Ansible.
- Service management tools such as Remedy/eSMT.
- Reporting and data visualization tools such as PowerBI.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite.
- Demonstrated initiative and responsiveness.
Experience
- Coordinating projects and leading initiatives with technical and business stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills to convey complex technical concepts in simplified terms.
- Analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with experience in change planning and implementation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office for process automation, data analysis, and reporting.
- Expertise in ITIL best practices for Incident, Problem, Change, and Configuration Management.
- 2+ years of experience managing the lifecycle of incidents, problems, and service requests using service management tools.
- Experience analyzing and reporting operational data to identify trends and optimize processes.
- 2+ years of systems administration experience with Oracle Solaris (Sun Solaris) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- 2+ years of middleware experience with IBM WebSphere Application Server/Liberty/NDM.
- Hands-on DevOps experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Urban Code Deploy, and Urban Code Velocity.
- Experience managing containerized applications using OpenShift.
- Expertise with secure file transfer protocols (SFTP/FTP).
- Experience with Ceph storage solutions.
- Exposure to cloud technologies, network topologies (firewalls, load balancers, DNS), and platforms such as DataPower, Informatica, IBM MQ, and IBM ACE.
- Experience working in public sector or government institutions is desirable.
Qualifications and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- ITIL certification is an asset.
