Job summary

First National Financial LP is seeking a Senior Application Developer in Toronto. You will analyze, develop, and implement changes within a cross-functional team, ensuring quality, scalability, and maintainability of mortgage systems. You will mentor junior engineers and help drive modernization initiatives.

Ideal candidates have 7+ years of application development experience, strong OOP and UML skills, and familiarity with COBOL, DB2, and IBM iSeries in mortgage processing environments.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in application development.
  • Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
  • Strong understanding of UML and architecture modelling (class diagrams, sequence diagrams, use cases).
  • Excellent knowledge of OOP concepts and frameworks.
  • Mortgage industry experience is a plus.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in all development phases: research, design, code, test, deploy.
  • Contribute to effort estimations and risk assessments in early project stages.
  • Ensure alignment with modernization plans and architecture roadmaps.
  • Uphold best practices, coding standards, and design principles across the team.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather consensus and informed decisions.

Full-Time/Part-Time: Full-Time

Salary Range: $108,034 - $128,034

Hours of Work: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Grade: 14.4

Office Location: Toronto, ON

The Opportunity

The Senior Application Developer working within a cross-functional product team, will be responsible for analyzing, developing, and implementing application changes and enhancements. The Senior Application Developer develops solutions ensuring quality, scalability, and maintainability. The Senior Application Developer will provide guidance to junior members on their team.

How you will contribute
  • Participate actively in all phases of development, including research, design, coding, testing, and deployment.

The experience you need
Skills and Attributes
  • COBOL, DB2, IBM iSeries experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong technical skills and hands on development and production support experience with legacy mortgage administration systems.
  • Experience and understanding of the mortgage lifecycle.
  • Experience in the mortgage industry.
  • Experience with Mortgage Administration Systems.
  • Strong analysis/debugging skills to help remove blockers for the team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask effectively.
Education/Certification/Experience Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in application development.
  • Working knowledge of UML and other architecture modelling notations (class diagrams, sequence diagrams, use cases, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of OOP concepts and frameworks.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Working Environment and Physical Demands Analysis
