Job summary

Enverus, a leading energy SaaS company, is seeking a senior member of the Subsurface Innovation team in Calgary. You’ll focus on CCUS and geothermal, mentor associates, and use AI to raise the quality and cadence of your work.

The role combines independent research with client-facing delivery and cross-team collaboration in a hybrid office setting. Expect to build and defend economic models, lead client discussions, and help shape datasets and workflows for the next release.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of relevant industry or research experience, focus on subsurface technologies.
• Undergraduate degree in geoscience, engineering, finance, accounting, mathematics, economics, environmental science, or public policy.
• Mentoring, coaching, or informal team-lead experience.
• Proven ability to build and defend economic models under scrutiny.
• Comfort leading client and prospect calls and relationship-building.
• Advanced Excel; comfort with data tools (Python, SQL, Power BI, or Spotfire) and AI tools is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Build out or review an economic model for a CCUS project, testing assumptions before client review.
• Lead a call with an institutional investor for a senior, straight-talk read on two geothermal projects’ resource assumptions.
• Address a sticking point in a geothermal LCOE model with an analyst to sharpen assumptions.
• Contribute to setting quarterly research priorities with the Team Lead and balance core research with client requests.
• Attend product team syncs to advocate for datasets and workflows needed for the next release.

The role

You’ll be a senior member of the Subsurface Innovation team, focused on CCUS and geothermal — two emerging subsurface technologies where industry benchmarks are still being established. As the team’s coverage grows, it may extend into adjacent plays such as natural hydrogen, helium, or direct lithium extraction (DLE).

Most client questions land on the same three axes: does the resource actually support the story, do the economics hold up once you strip out the hype, and what does the policy and tax-credit landscape mean for a project’s returns. You’ll be the person clients and the business turn to for a straight answer, and you’ll be a major contributor to shaping what the team researches.

You’ll also be a coach and mentor to the associates and analysts working alongside you — sharpening their thinking on a model or a client narrative, and helping them take on more independent, senior work over time. Enverus is an AI-first company. You’re expected to use AI to raise the quality and cadence of your own work, and to help the people around you build that same habit.

This role is based at our Calgary office, with hybrid work available and regular in‑office presence expected.

Examples of what you’ll be doing

• Build out or review an economic model for a CCUS project, pressure-testing the credit and incentive assumptions before it goes in front of a client.
• Lead a call with an institutional investor who wants a senior, straight-talk read on how two geothermal projects’ resource assumptions compare.
• Work through a sticking point in an analyst’s geothermal LCOE model with them — sharpening an assumption that’s likely to draw pushback from a client.
• Contribute to setting the quarter’s research priorities alongside your Team Lead, balancing base research, ad hoc client requests, and room to go deep on something interesting.
• Sit in on a product team sync to advocate for a dataset the team needs, and bring back what’s realistic for the next release.

What you’ll own

• Coverage & expertise. Become an expert on Subsurface Innovation topics; take on almost any technical problem in that space with confidence.
• Independent research delivery. Identify and execute research initiatives with little to no direction, from economic model build through to published note.
• Client relationships. Comfortably assume a primary role on client and prospect calls, presenting Intelligence results and leading discussions.
• Mentorship. Help train and mentor associates and analysts on technical concepts, Prism workflows, research writing, and client‑delivery skills.
• Team priorities. Have a real voice in what the team researches and why, and help shape how work gets prioritized as the coverage area grows.
• Product development. Represent the team’s needs to the product group and help shape the datasets and workflows that support the coverage area.
• Publication ownership. Take accountability in the publication process — setting realistic deadlines and communicating openly when priorities shift.

Must-haves

• 5–8 years of relevant industry or research experience, with a focus on subsurface technologies. Experience with CCUS and/or geothermal is a plus.
• Undergraduate degree in geoscience, engineering, finance, accounting, mathematics, economics, environmental science, or public policy.
• Some experience mentoring, coaching, or informally leading others — we’re looking for evidence you’ve already started developing that muscle.
• Demonstrated ability to build and defend economic models under scrutiny — you can walk a skeptical institutional investor through your assumptions line by line.
• Comfort leading client and prospect calls and the relationship-building that comes with it.
• Advanced Excel skills; comfort with data tools (Python, SQL, Power BI, or Spotfire) and AI tools is a strong plus.

Helpful, but not required

• Exposure to adjacent subsurface plays, such as natural hydrogen, helium, or direct lithium extraction (DLE).
• Prior mentorship or informal team‑lead experience.
• Direct experience with carbon‑market or tax‑credit policy relevant to CCUS or geothermal, in the US or Canada.
• Existing relationships with institutional investors, E&P companies, or subsurface technology developers.
