Job description

Applies mathematical and statistical methods to financial and risk management problems (e.g., internal controls; enterprise-wide stress testing and scenario analysis; capital modelling; valuations). Uses quantitative analytical modelling to identify key factors for financial disaster and recovery plans. Conducts research and develops tools utilizing data for scenario-based planning and implements complex mathematical models to support better financial decision-making (e.g., investments, pricing), drive innovation, and minimize uncertainty impacts.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Developing pricing and risk models for portfolios such as fixed income, corporate credit, and loans.
  2. Monitoring risk in strategies and portfolios alongside project managers or functional leads.
  3. Creating data-driven tools for financial decisions, including investments and pricing.
  4. Applying risk assessment knowledge and industry compliance standards.
  5. Identifying risk mitigation strategies and implementing solutions after analysis.
  6. Documenting data flow, systems, and processes to improve business operations.
  7. Conducting quantitative research on risks across strategies and portfolios.
  8. Focusing primarily on the business/group within BMO, with potential enterprise-wide scope.
  9. Using judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within established rules.
  10. Working independently on complex and unique tasks.

Qualifications include:

Foundational Level:

  • Regulatory capital and stress testing
  • CECL & IFRS9
  • Compliance and regulation
  • Machine learning
  • Learning agility
  • Systems thinking
  • Model risk management
  • Data visualization, wrangling, preprocessing
  • Critical thinking and results-driven mindset

Intermediate Level:

  • Quantitative financial modeling
  • SAS, Python proficiency
  • Computational thinking and programming
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and analytical skills
  • Data-driven decision making
  • Typically 4-6 years of relevant experience and related degree or equivalent experience
