Kinectrics is searching for an intermediate or senior Analyst / Engineer to join the Life Cycle Management & Component Integrity service line who will be responsible for providing support to the Life Cycle & Asset Management team. This includes development of Life Cycle Management Plans (LCMPs), Periodic Inspection Programs, Containment Testing, Vacuum Building Outage Support, Component Condition Assessments, Thermal Performance Assessments, Technical Basis Assessments, and other work supporting long-term equipment reliability and asset management for our clients.

Accountabilities : How You Will Make an Impact

  • Provide nuclear safety and licensing support to clients in the nuclear sector in the area of Reactor Physics under the Deterministic Safety Analysis Directorate. General accountabilities include :
  • Conduct work requiring application of technical expertise, with specialized knowledge and mature judgement in the Reactor Physics discipline, and general knowledge in other areas of engineering / science
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of technical reports suitable for submission to clients and to nuclear regulators (for example, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission) and support the client in addressing questions from the regulatory bodies.
  • Propose, plan, lead, and / or conduct single-discipline and multi-disciplinary projects, programs, or activities.
  • Provide technical leadership or key capabilities that support program areas.
  • Lead, mentor, coach, and train less experienced staff.
  • Carry out all work with a view to ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Outline, assign, and supervise the work of intermediate & junior engineers / analysts and / or other technical staff.
  • Manage work with scope for independent investigation, action, and accomplishments.

What You Need to Succeed

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Engineering Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics or equivalent is required.
  • Candidates are expected to have or pursue attainment of the P.Eng. designation, if eligible.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and / or experience as follows :
  • Knowledge of Reactor Physics, including the concepts and equations governing nuclear processes, and the reactor systems and components affecting core criticality and power distribution.
  • Broad knowledge of the different industry level Reactor Physics codes used in safety analysis.
  • Experience in code simulations and code verification and validation, including both deterministic and stochastic Reactor Physics codes, with in-depth knowledge and understanding of underlying models and methods used in the codes.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of safety analysis results to design and operation of CANDU reactors defining Safe Operating Envelope (SOE);
  • Demonstrated experience in reactor design assist / support; and
  • Knowledge of CANDU technology and other reactor types.
  • Ability to work in a project driven environment with the capability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and deliver within project constraints (time, cost, quality).
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assigned work and to coordinate multiple activities efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality assurance requirements.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with Canadian regulatory requirements and applicable CSA standards.
  • A period of 8 or more years of experience in the nuclear industry with a focus on reactor physics or related experience.
  • Flexible in terms of their willingness to accept evolving assignments as current projects end and new projects begin.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and a demonstrated capability to interface effectively with and gain the trust of clients.
  • Demonstrated experience in complex licensing and / or safety analysis.
