Senior Analyst, Plan Policy and Onboarding

OUR COMPANY BACKGROUND & CULTURE

UPP is the first pension plan of its kind in Ontario’s university sector, proudly serving over 41,000 members across five universities and fourteen sector organizations. Our purpose is to bring greater retirement peace of mind to the university sector by investing with integrity and serving members with care. As a sector-wide plan designed for growth, our doors are open to all Ontario universities.

Together, we’re a team of progressive thinkers and agile doers operating within a fast-paced culture of collaboration and respect. We believe in bringing smart and capable people together to create, solve, and grow with a clear shared vision and values of integrity, inclusivity, ingenuity, and impact. Our culture is intentionally welcoming and purposefully rooted in equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation (EDI&R). We believe diverse teams, perspectives, and lived experiences contribute to better decisions and a better workplace.

As a pension plan, UPP approaches investing through a long-term lens to generate and safeguard value. Our commitment to investing responsibly accounts for material risks that impact our investment portfolio to generate sufficient risk-adjusted returns to meet the pension needs of our members.

Join us in building a bright future for our members, our organization, and each other.

THE ROLE

UPP is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Senior Analyst, Plan Policy and Onboarding to support the smooth integration of new employers and pension plans into UPP. This role is ideal for a seasoned pension professional who excels at interpreting plan provisions, identifying administrative and legislative impacts, and drafting business requirements that drive successful implementation.

This role is based in downtown Toronto in a hybrid work environment, allowing employees the flexibility to work remotely and in-office (minimum two days per week in-office).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead the review and analysis of incoming pension plan documentation to understand and interpret plan provisions.
  • Develop clear, comparative analyses that identify key differences between incoming plans and UPP’s design.
  • Draft detailed business requirements to support the implementation of prior plan provisions into UPP’s systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Legal, Pension Services, Employer Onboarding) to support onboarding activities.
  • Participate in discussions with incoming employers to explain findings and support decision-making.
  • Review system testing and validate that changes reflect agreed provisions and requirements.
  • Contribute to plan amendments and related regulatory filings.
  • Provide insights to improve processes, documentation, and operational efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • University degree and a minimum of 7 years of experience in pension policy, plan administration, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of defined benefit pension plans, including plan design, administration, and industry practices.
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Pension Benefits Act, Income Tax Act, and ability to apply legislation and legal agreements.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Project management experience is a strong asset.
  • Actuarial background or defined benefit system implementation experience is an asset.

ATTRIBUTES

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and experience developing business requirements or implementing system changes.
  • High level of integrity and discretion with confidential information.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
