MacEwan University is seeking applicants for a Senior Analyst, Identity & Access Management for a full-time continuing opportunity with the Information Technology Services department.

The Senior Analyst, Identity & Access Management plays an important role in the design, implementation, and ongoing support of secure and scalable IAM solutions at MacEwan. You will be responsible for completing complex technical analyses, developing and executing integration strategies, and ensuring IAM practices align with institutional policies, security standards, and evolving technological trends. You will also play a central role in shaping and executing system lifecycle activities, application integrations, compliance initiatives, and operational improvements, all through a strong IAM lens. In addition, you will ensure that identity and access considerations are consistently applied across the university’s expanding technology environment and embedded in architecture, project planning, and enterprise systems while aligning with institutional policies, security standards, and emerging best practices.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing existing and/or new systems, processes, and data flows to design appropriate technical solutions;
  • Ensuring IAM considerations are addressed throughout the systems development lifecycle (e.g., project designs, requirements documents, and change management processes);
  • Developing detailed technical requirements pertaining to IAM from business and functional specifications;
  • Conducting regular assessments to identify areas for system enhancement and upgrades, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and industry best practices;
  • Installing, configuring, tuning, and updating IAM application technologies, including, but not limited to, Java virtual machines, Java web application servers, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) systems, IAM integrations, Microsoft Azure Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, and MacEwan's single sign-on (SSO) infrastructure;
  • Managing IAM requirements for third-party access, ensuring secure and compliant integration with external systems and vendors;
  • Using monitoring tools, alerts, dashboards, and response mechanisms for fault detection, performance anomalies, and security events, to ensure rapid incident detection;
  • Ensuring IAM integration decisions support compliance with institutional security policies, FOIP, and other applicable regulations;
  • Defining and refining IAM technical control standards in areas such as user provisioning, password management, and role-based access control (RBAC), applying industry best practices;
  • Implementing and supporting identity governance and administration functions, including access certifications, role lifecycle management, and segregation of duties policies;
  • Communicating technical IAM concepts to non-technical stakeholders, helping them understand the impact of identity design decisions; and
  • Developing and delivering technical training on IAM and related security best practices.
Skills

You will have:

  • A demonstrated passion, interest, and understanding of trends and best practices in IAM and related technologies;
  • Demonstrable IT skills such as working with enterprise technology environments and modern platforms such as cloud service providers and security software;
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), including the ability to communicate effectively with external stakeholders and internal stakeholders at varying levels within the organization and to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and build/maintain strong working relationships;
  • Strong planning and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously ;
  • The ability to gather data, investigate, analyze, and synthesize information to draw conclusions and make recommendations;
  • Comfortability navigating situations that can be somewhat ambiguous with the ability to design solutions that work across platforms;
  • A strong attention to detail, with excellent organizational, time management, analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills;
  • The ability to multitask, take initiative, demonstrate flexibility to adapt to changing situations and priorities, and meet critical deadlines;
  • The ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment;
  • Experience with various computer networks, operating systems, software, hardware, and diverse operating systems and platforms such as: Linux, Windows, macOS, iPhone, Android, and cloud environments and service providers such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud;
  • Proven experience integrating applications using identity protocols and IAM tools and platforms such as Java virtual machines, Java web application servers, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) systems, IAM integrations, Microsoft Azure Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, and single sign-on (SSO) infrastructure; and
  • Scripting knowledge (e.g., Python) to support automation of IAM workflows and connectors would be considered an asset.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.
  • Designation in a foundational Information Security certification (such as ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity or ISC2 Systems Security Certified Practitioner, CompTIA Security+, Google Cybersecurity Certificate) is considered an asset (if not currently certified, MacEwan will provide support to obtain the certification within the first year of employment).
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience administering IAM and completing integrations in a complex technical environment.
  • Experience in leading projects with elements of change management and compliance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IAM technologies.
  • Experience working within a post-secondary or public sector environment would be considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
