Why is this role important?

Reporting to the Team Lead, Data Management and Operations, the Senior Analyst plays a key role in organizing and leveraging the pan-Canadian data CIHI holds. This may involve data management, developing and maintaining data processes and information standards including indicators), preparing relevant documentation, providing client support, presenting information, assessing data quality, producing statistics, fulfilling custom data requests, conducting analysis and contributing to analytical reports. Senior analyst participates in department / branch projects and initiatives, as well as other meetings and special projects as required.

What you'll do

1. Supports and maintains Health workforce data holdings, ensuring they are fit for purpose, and to support the production of key deliverables for internal and external dissemination. Key deliverables include taking a leadership role on all phases of the applicable projects, to delivering the finished data tables for release and dissemination.

2. Conducts data management activities including writing and updating statistical code to support the release of data and information through private and public reporting tools, including leading the execution of test strategies to ensure accuracy of the reported results in adherence with CIHI’s corporate information quality framework.

3. Leads and / or contributes to the development of materials (e.g., analytical reports, methodology or technical notes, presentations, educational, media, etc.) for dissemination of findings and knowledge translation, and reviews written products for analytic accuracy and quality.

4. Provides support to external and internal stakeholders / data providers, including planning and organizing meetings and training, producing relevant analysis and presentation / summary information, coordinating information dissemination, and undertaking follow-up activities, as required.

5. Works with the interdisciplinary team to transform CIHI’s Health workforce data supply, including conducting analysis on data elements, editing requirements, data mining, and testing to support the implementation of the new minimum data standards system.

6. Provides professional and timely client support to respond to internal and external client queries as required.

7. Participates in the design of test strategies / test cases, develops code and scripts and provides analytical support to ensure accurate and comprehensive testing of upgrades and enhancements to data collection and reporting systems.

8. Develops and maintains detailed knowledge of data and tools (e.g. Python, R, Excel) used to produce standard and ad hoc outputs.

9. Contributes to key activities of the Health Workforce Information (HWI) branch as required, including coordination of projects with the other program areas.

10. Ensures adherence to, and ability to demonstrate compliance with, CIHI’s privacy and security policies and procedures when using CIHI data and information.

11. Maintains current knowledge of CIHI’s data holdings, trends in health services research and health policy, and stakeholder information needs to support current work and contribute to the development of new analytic proposals.

12. Participates in other meetings and corporate project teams as required.

Basic Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in economics, data science, statistics or related field. A graduate degree is an asset.
  • Three to five years related experience working with relational databases / large datasets, including manipulating, maintaining, and preparing data and presenting analyses and reports for different audiences.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills, with an ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with data manipulation and statistical software, such as Python, or other statistical software is essential.
  • Demonstrated expertise in collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and other subject matter experts to gather relevant information to develop and support project activities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with minimal supervision.
  • Strong collaboration, teamwork and ability to work in a matrix environment Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of healthcare is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
