Job description

As a Senior Analyst in the Credit Risk Analytics team at National Bank, you’ll be responsible for A-IRB model implementation, credit risk data analytics, and back-testing of credit risk models such as A-IRB, IFRS-9, and Economic Capital models. With strong programming and data analytics skills, experience in implementing large and complex systems, and knowledge in technology, credit risk modeling, and back-testing, you’ll positively impact NBC’s credit risk management by building efficient and robust risk processes and providing insightful analyses to senior management.

Your role :

  • Understand risk model requirements, then design and implement risk model processes efficiently and reliably in SAS.
  • Build unit tests, regression tests, and input/output quality control processes to ensure result accuracy.
  • Serve as a bridge between business and IT teams with strong risk and technology knowledge.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements.
  • Investigate data observations to identify root causes.
  • Conduct impact analyses for risk movements, model updates, data migration, and process changes.
  • Coordinate risk production activities with upstream and downstream teams.
  • Contribute to back-testing activities, including test development, result analysis, investigation, and reporting.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of information.
  • Support ad-hoc data analytics requests from senior management and regulators efficiently and accurately.

Your team

As part of the Credit Risk Analytics sector, you’ll be on a team of 22 colleagues, reporting to the Senior Manager. Our team specializes in model development, implementation, and risk reporting in IFRS-9, stress testing, and capital areas. Due to the nature of our processes, especially during month-end or quarter-end reporting, work may sometimes be under tight deadlines and pressure. We offer ongoing learning opportunities including coaching, hands-on training, and collaboration with colleagues across risk programming, data analytics, model development, and senior management presentation.

Prerequisites

  • Masters in Financial Engineering, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
  • Progression towards CFA and/or FRM is an asset.
  • SAS certification is an asset.
  • 2-3 years of professional experience in risk management, with risk reporting and programming experience in Canada preferred.
  • Experience in coding, operating, and maintaining production risk processes, managing large datasets.
  • Experience with ETL, web services, performance tuning, and script automation.
  • Proficiency in SAS, UNIX shell scripting, Python, VBA, SQL, and DataStage.
  • Deep understanding of credit risk modeling and back-testing.
  • Strong analytical skills for cause analysis and impact assessment.
  • Excellent technical and business writing skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to see the big picture.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Critical thinking, quick learning, and independence.
