Job summary

ESS Technology, Inc. in Kelowna, British Columbia, is seeking a Senior Analog Design Engineer to lead high-performance mixed-signal IC development for audio DACs/ADCs and Class D amplifiers.

You will own architecture, verification, and tapeout readiness, mentoring junior designers and coordinating with cross-functional teams. Based in Kelowna, you will contribute to innovative analog design in a collaborative environment, leveraging AI-assisted design tools and occasional travel to ESS

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is required; Master’s (MSEE) is a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in analog or mixed signal IC design.
• Experience designing data converters (DACs/ADCs), PLLs, bandgaps, temperature sensors, charge pumps, and voltage regulators.
• Experience with BCD process technology; hands-on designing H-Bridge output stages preferred.
• Hands-on experience with Synopsys Custom Compiler for schematic entry, simulation, and layout.
• Strong knowledge of CMOS technologies (0.18-um to 12-nm) with large digital blocks and precision analog circuits.
• Proficiency with SPICE, MATLAB, and related tools.
• Experience using AI-assisted design tools to accelerate design, verification, or layout.
• Solid layout knowledge and understanding of parasitic component effects.
• Comfortable with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, soldering).
• Strong communication skills, with ability to mentor and collaborate across teams.
• Basic digital design skills at the gate level and familiarity with Verilog is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop high-performance mixed signal circuits for audio DACs, ADCs, PLLs, and building blocks.
• Own specification definition, architecture, circuit design, verification, layout supervision, and characterization of complex analog and mixed signal ICs.
• Lead and participate in tapeouts of complex mixed signal ICs with cross-group coordination.
• Design and characterize Class D amplifier building blocks, including H-Bridge output stages.
• Develop new circuit architectures and assess complexity, risk, and trade-offs.
• Mentor junior and mid-level analog designers and participate in design reviews.
• Partner with the Director, Analog IC Design on planning and resourcing.
• Support other groups with testing, qualifying, and releasing designs to production.
• Evaluate and apply AI-assisted design tools and flows to improve productivity.
• Some travel may be required to ESS headquarters in California.

As we expand into Class D audio amplifier design, we are looking for an experienced analog designer to join our analog design group, reporting to the Director, Analog IC Design.

Main Duties

As a Senior Analog Design Engineer, you will be a key technical contributor within the analog design group, responsible for the following:

• Design and develop high-performance mixed signal circuits for audio DACs, ADCs, PLLs, and supporting building blocks such as bandgaps, temperature sensors, charge pumps, and voltage regulators.
• Own specification definition, architecture, circuit design, verification, layout supervision, and characterization of complex analog and mixed signal ICs, from concept through production sampling.
• Lead and participate at a senior level in tapeouts of complex mixed signal ICs, coordinating closely with layout, verification, and product engineering teams.
• Design and characterize Class D amplifier building blocks, including H-Bridge output stages using BCD process technology.
• Develop new circuit architectures and assess the complexity, risk, and schedule trade-offs of new designs.
• Mentor junior and mid-level analog designers and contribute to design reviews across the analog design group.
• Partner with the Director, Analog IC Design on technical planning, project prioritization, and resourcing for the group.
• Support other groups with testing, qualifying, and releasing designs to production.
• Evaluate and apply AI-assisted design tools and flows to improve design productivity, verification coverage, and turnaround time.
• Some travel may be required from time to time to meet with ESS headquarters in California.

Employment Requirements

• Demonstrated experience designing data converters (DACs/ADCs), PLLs, bandgaps, temperature sensors, charge pumps, and voltage regulators.
• Experience with BCD (Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS) process technology; hands-on experience designing H-Bridge output stage applications is preferred.
• Hands-on experience with Synopsys Custom Compiler for schematic entry, simulation, and layout is required.
• Strong knowledge of CMOS technologies (0.18-um to 12-nm) containing large digital blocks and precision analog circuits.
• Proficiency with SPICE, MATLAB, and related simulation and analysis tools.
• Experience using AI-assisted design tools or flows to accelerate design, verification, or layout tasks is a strong plus.
