MAKING AN IMPACT

Reporting to the Advocacy Manager (Public Engagement) the Senior Advocacy Specialist (Public Engagement) will lead expanded public engagement programs within the Voices for Change network including Advocacy Constituency Team Leads (ACT) and Youth Troop to meet growing program participation and organizational demands. The position will also ensure that advocacy is successfully integrated into CCS mission and fundraising initiatives. The position will work across the organization to create compelling advocacy campaigns. Finally, the position will ensure obligations set out in existing donor agreements are met, as well as develop new opportunities for advocacy.

What You’ll Be Doing

Growing Voices for Change Network and Integrating Perspectives

  • Build a diverse network of CCS advocacy volunteers to inform and take part in activities to help achieve CCS advocacy goals and contribute to broader organization initiatives. A focus will be on recruitment campaigns, leading training programs and formalizing leadership roles within CCS advocacy.
  • Onboard and train storytellers for success in advocacy, including meetings with elected officials and fostering long-term dialogue and engagement with elected officials
  • Lead quantitative & qualitative advocacy patient engagement and incorporate perspectives into advocacy government submissions

Lead Advocacy Programs

  • Lead the development and implementation of the new Advocacy Constituency Team (ACT) lead program, ensuring that these lead patients, caregivers and cause supporters make continued contributions to CCS advocacy
  • Lead the growth and integration of advocacy in CCS signature events, including Relay for Life and Run for the Cure
  • Oversee growing Advocacy Summit & Hill Day and ensure compliance with donor agreements
  • Lead the development and implementation of the advocacy programming in Youth Troop, including developing youth-targeted advocacy campaigns
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies to maximize total engagements with elected officials AND CCS storytellers.

Overseeing Advocacy Integration Across Fundraising, Marketing, Communications and VE teams

  • Support the creation of advocacy campaigns that inspire people to take-action, leveraging paid, earned, owned, and shared media
  • Develop and lead a content strategy for advocacy programs
  • Work directly with fundraising teams to integrate fundraising goals into advocacy led campaigns and vice-a-versa.
  • Support donor stewardship opportunities within advocacy
  • Contribute to our culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity (DIBE) by ensuring that all staff feel represented, valued, and heard across all aspects of their identity, including gender, age, religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, and sexuality.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must have Undergraduate degree in Political Science, Communications, Public Administration, History or related discipline
  • More than 3 years of experience in similar or related field
  • Experience working directly with people impacted by cancer
  • Experience working directly with elected officials
  • Experience in digital marketing, lead generation, and campaign development
  • Experience leading issue-based campaigns, over a long-term, and involving multiple internal and external teams
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles; communicate with technical and non-technical users
  • Strong political acuity and emotional intelligence
  • Bilingualism (French / English) is highly preferred, with French being an asset due to the organization’s nationwide operations and the need for effective communication across various regions.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment comprised of volunteers and staff
