Job summary

BBA Consultants is seeking a Senior Advisor for Power Advisory and Load Forecasting in Canada. You will lead load forecasting and power advisory services, develop models, and expand client relationships across North America.

The role focuses on energy transition trends and engagement with utility-sector projects. The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of experience, strong data analytics skills (Python, Tableau, Power BI), and a passion for mentoring staff while delivering strategic PAAM

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, business, finance, engineering or data science.
  • At least 8 years of experience.
  • Experience with data processing and data analytics products (Tableau, Power BI, etc.).
  • Knowledge of utilities and power markets.
  • Experience developing load forecasts.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, programming (Python) and machine learning.
  • Project management experience.
  • Assets: economic models in the power space and continuing education

Responsibilities

  • Lead the PAAM group in load forecasting, power advisory, SME support and continual improvement projects, initially focused on the utility sector.
  • Develop models/tools to assist in the analysis of condition, forecasting and investment scenarios.
  • Develop models and frameworks for electricity planning in generation projects and the bulk system.
  • Support the PAAM group in client engagement methodology development, work scheduling and workload balancing.
  • Mentor junior staff and help develop training materials while carrying out staff education and mentorships.
  • Lead projects within the PAAM team, including managing resources, schedules, budgets and client expectations.
  • Deliver on assigned marketing and sales of services within the business line.
  • Contribute to the overall PAAM group strategic plan and key initiatives

Overview

BBA is a national, employee‑owned, multi‑disciplinary engineering and services firm with offices coast to coast, in the U.S. and abroad. We have an established Power and Renewables business line which comprises Power Advisory and Asset Management (PAAM), Transmission and Distribution (T&D), Wind and Solar, Storage, Hydropower and Industrial Power groups. We want to strengthen our position in the PAAM group and Power Markets segment across North America.

Type of position: Regular

Senior Advisor, Power Advisory and Load Forecasting

As the Senior Advisor, Power Advisory and Load Forecasting, you’ll be responsible for driving load forecasting and power advisory services and products, as well as building and maintaining client relationships. You’ll also lead and continue to develop our load forecasting services within the North American power utility market. You’ll leverage your expertise, industry knowledge, client relationships and engineering/data science experience to achieve our objectives. Additionally, this role will include the opportunity to work on other power advisory projects within the generation and transmission market segments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the PAAM group in load forecasting, power advisory, SME support and continual improvement projects, initially focused on the utility sector, including the ability to develop tools that account for energy transition trends and triggers (e.g., EV/DER penetration, data centres)
  • Develop models/tools to assist in the analysis of condition, forecasting and investment scenarios
  • Develop models and frameworks for electricity planning in the context of generation projects and the bulk system
  • Support the PAAM group in client business development, client engagement methodology development, work scheduling and workload balancing
  • Mentor junior staff and help develop training materials while carrying out formal and informal staff education, training and mentorships
  • Lead projects within the PAAM team, including managing resources, schedules, budgets and client expectations
  • Deliver on assigned marketing and sales of services within the business line
  • Contribute to the overall PAAM group strategic plan and key initiatives

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, business, finance, engineering or data science, or similar post‑secondary degree
  • At least 8 years of experience
  • Data processing and data analytics products (Tableau, Power BI, etc.)
  • Regional, domestic and international utility and generation company regulations
  • Technologies and systems used by power system operators (SCADA, Metering management, GIS, CAD)
  • Knowledge of utilities and power markets
  • Experience and knowledge in developing load forecasts related to energy needs
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, programming (i.e., Python) and machine learning
  • Project management experience
  • Asset: knowledge of economic models in the power space (production cost, capacity expansion, ELCC, etc.)
  • Assets: industry designation and/or continuing education
