Job summary

BBA Consultants seeks a Junior Advisor to join our Power Advisory and Asset Management team. Work spans utility, mining and industrial sectors, delivering asset analytics and decision-support tools.

You'll engage in data analytics, forecasting and analytics development, collaborating with engineers, data scientists and policy-makers to improve asset resilience and performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or similar post-secondary in engineering, economics, data science or business.
  • 0 to 3 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of statistical analyses, Python, SQL, R and machine learning.
  • Strong communication skills (spoken and written).
  • Strong team-building and leadership skills.
  • Strong time-management and project-management skills.
  • Asset knowledge of other utility and energy markets is a plus.
  • Asset knowledge of asset analytics and load forecasts is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and deliver decision-making asset analytics including asset condition, risk-based management and probabilistic analytics.
  • Support load forecasting for power utilities and large industrial customers.
  • Develop asset analytics dashboards, visualisations and digital twins.
  • Assist in identifying KPIs and metrics to improve productivity and risk management.
  • Support regulatory reporting and capital/maintenance investment planning.
  • Contribute to business case evaluation frameworks for investments.
  • Conduct end-to-end data analytics from collection to visualization.
  • Explore new decision-making tech using ML and AI techniques.
  • Engage in hands-on consulting with data analysis, research and stakeholder interviews.
  • Present findings through engagement and knowledge-sharing activities.

BBA has a new opportunity for a Junior Advisor as part of our Power Advisory and Asset Management (PAAM) team. The PAAM team is an advanced multidisciplinary group of engineers, data scientists, economists, mathematicians, statisticians, policy‑makers and advisors who are building the next generation of decision‑making analytics and platforms to help organizations make their asset infrastructure more resilient in the face of extreme weather, growing capacity needs and the integration of new technologies (e.g., electric vehicles, renewables, data centres). Our work supports a variety of organizations, including electric GT&D utilities, independent power producers and commercial customers, to avoid potential risks by taking the right actions, with the right assets, at the right time.

This new opportunity will involve a wide range of challenging projects in the utility and power sector, along with exposure to the mining and industrial sectors.

  • Help deliver decision‑making asset analytics, including advanced asset condition assessment and monitoring, risk‑based asset management frameworks, root cause analysis, failure analysis and probabilistic analytics.
  • Support the delivery of top‑down and bottom‑up load forecasting for power utilities, large industrial customers and independent power producers.
  • Develop asset analytics dashboards, visualisations, digital twins and geospatial visual environments to convey key decision‑making messages to asset players.
  • Support the development of key performance indicators, metrics and measures to enhance productivity, operations and risk management.
  • Support the delivery of regulatory reporting deliverables, including long‑term and short‑term capital and maintenance investment plans as part of electricity rate filing applications.
  • Support the development of business case evaluation (BCE) frameworks to justify and prioritise key investments.
  • Perform end‑to‑end data analytics, including data collection, transformation, analysis, and visualisation.
  • Support the development of new decision‑making technologies leveraging advanced machine learning, deep learning and artificial intelligence techniques.
  • Engage in hands‑on consulting work, including data analysis, research, stakeholder interviews and preparation of final deliverables.
  • Delivery of engagement and contribution (E&C) programmes to present key findings from major projects as part of knowledge sharing, client engagement and networking activities.
