Job summary

Desjardins is seeking a senior legal and regulatory compliance advisor for a 12-month temporary assignment in Montreal. You will design, institute and coordinate our compliance framework and ensure oversight measures meet the organization’s standards.

You will lead complex strategic initiatives across multiple sectors, advise senior management, and represent the unit in negotiations with external partners. French language proficiency is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • At least eight years of relevant experience.
  • Fluent in French (spoken and written).

Responsibilities

  • Lead specialized development projects and initiatives impacting the organization.
  • Identify and recommend legal and regulatory compliance directions balancing business needs.
  • Advise clients and partners to plan, execute, and monitor strategic projects.
  • Identify issues, diagnose problems, and make evidence-based recommendations.
  • Develop and update policies, standards, and programs for strategic initiatives.
  • Provide compliance programs to promote ethics and compliance culture.
  • Represent the unit before senior management and decision bodies.
  • Represent and negotiate on behalf of Desjardins with external partners.

Job description

Temporary position for 12 months.

As a senior legal and regulatory compliance advisor, you help design, institute and coordinate the compliance framework and enforce related rules. You help ensure that oversight measures such as officer and employee behaviours comply with the organization’s standards. You lead and influence development projects and complex, highly innovative strategic initiatives involving multiple sectors. You help develop and recommend strategic directions and business positions. Your initiatives require extensive knowledge of your field. You make recommendations on the planning and execution of operationally and conceptually complex projects and initiatives that require comprehensive analysis and understanding of the organization and line of business. Coordination is critical, so you frequently interact with stakeholders working in a wide range of other fields. Interpersonal savvy is therefore essential. You serve as expert advisor and subject matter expert, as well as resource person and coach for senior management and decision-making bodies. More specifically, you will be required to:

  • Lead specialized development projects, initiatives and activities that significantly impact the entire organization
  • Identify, develop and recommend legal and regulatory compliance strategic directions to balance business needs, requirements and best practices
  • Advise your clients and partners to help them position, plan, develop, execute and monitor strategic projects and initiatives
  • Identify, analyze, diagnose and address major issues and make recommendations to decision-making bodies
  • Develop and update policies, standards, models and programs to support your unit’s strategic projects and initiatives
  • Offer legal and regulatory compliance programs to internal employees to promote our culture of ethics and compliance
  • Represent your unit before senior management committees and decision-making bodies
  • Represent and negotiate on behalf of Desjardins and enter the organization into agreements with external partners and organizations.
