A safe and reliable power supply is essential to ensure southwestern Ontario can continue to grow now and into the future. That’s why Hydro One is proposing to construct a new double-circuit 230 kilovolt transmission line from the Chatham Switching Station located in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent to a future Lakeshore Switching Station, which will be located in the Municipality of Lakeshore. This new transmission line, called the Chatham to Lakeshore Transmission Line (“the Project”), Hydro One has selected Voltage Power, an Aecon Company, to engineer, procure and construct the transmission line, and Aecon is hiring a full time Sr. Indigenous Relations Advisor to support throughout the entire project life-cycle.

Reporting to the Manager of Indigenous Relations, the Sr. Indigenous Relations Advisor will assist with overall and strategic management of the Project, including supporting the Manager of Indigenous Relations and project team with decision making aimed towards maximizing economic participation by Indigenous Communities on the project, including working to establish procurement opportunities, develop training programs and hiring initiatives with local Indigenous Peoples and businesses.

What You'll Do In This Role

• Identify, research, and propose opportunities for strategic partnerships.
• Participate, as needed, in relationship-building opportunities, including conferences, boards, and other meaningful prospects.
• Assist in the development of community relations and joint partnership initiatives, including partnerships with Indigenous businesses.
• Provide internal support, advice and develop Indigenous Engagement Plans if required on bid preparations, with consideration for existing relationships, past successes, labour plans, and other vital factors.
• Act as liaison to multiple Voltage and Aecon functional groups.
• Develop internal communications and presentations to highlight Indigenous Relations’ initiatives.
• Contribute to business cases for investment and partnership.
• Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.

What You Bring To The Team

• Degree in Indigenous Studies or comparable field (preferred but not mandatory)
• Creative thinker and business acumen
• Enjoy working as a team and collaboration
• Honest and ethical
• Passion and commitment to work towards building longstanding relationships with communities that extend far beyond the project
• Experience working in southwestern Ontario
• Political Savvy: Can maneuver through complex political situations effectively and quietly and is sensitive to how people, organizations, and culture’s function
• Understanding Others: Picks up the sense of the group in terms of positions, intentions, and needs; what they value and how to motivate them
• Communication: Ability to speak and write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles; can get messages across that have the desired effect; is effective both inside and outside the organization
• Significant Indigenous lived experience (local to the project is preferred)
• Cross-cultural agility – awareness of/sensitivity to diverse Indigenous culture and history.
• Be a champion of inclusion and diversity.
