Job summary

The Ontario Energy Board is looking for a Senior Advisor, Energy Transition to join their Strategic Policy team on a 12-month contract. Qualifications

  • 7 years’ progressive experience in strategic or energy policy development.
  • Experience within a regulated industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Ontario’s electricity sector is strongly preferred.

Overview

We are currently seeking an energetic and collaborative individual to join our team as a Senior Advisor, Energy Transition (12 - month contract). This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who likes intellectually challenging work in a collaborative environment that fosters innovation and creativity.

Reporting to the Manager of Energy Transition, the Senior Advisor is responsible for leading work related to energy transition. This involves developing policy options and recommendations by engaging with industry stakeholders and carrying out research and analysis. It also includes providing subject matter expertise and thought leadership to assist executive leadership in achieving the OEB’s objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project teams to develop policy proposals to address complex energy sector issues.
  • Lead stakeholder consultations and facilitate stakeholder meetings and working groups to gather input on issues and proposals, and seek consensus as needed.
  • Present policy proposals to OEB executive leadership for review and approval.
  • Provide recommendations in support of effective decision making and coordinate with senior management and staff on responses and resolutions for sensitive, complex, and contentious issues.
  • Lead OEB staff teams and consultants in research and analysis on key energy sector issues to provide thought leadership to the sector and to inform the development of policy options.
  • Build and maintain relationships with energy stakeholders (consumers, market participants, utilities ), other regulatory agencies, and industry associations to exchange information and identify emerging and topical issues .
  • Present OEB policies and results of research to the broader energy sector, including at conferences and external meetings.
  • Develop and maintain reputation as an expert in subject matter area.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Economics, Commerce, Public Policy or related discipline.
  • A graduate degree or professional designation is preferred.
  • 7 years’ progressive experience in strategic policy or energy policy development.
  • Experience working within a regulated industry, regulatory body and / or public utility is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Ontario’s electricity sector is strongly preferred.
  • Organizational skills to independently plan, prioritize, and organize work in an accurate and detailed manner.
  • Diplomacy, interpersonal and communication skills to deal fairly, assertively, and constructively with people leaders, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Judgment and decision-making skills to balance competing needs and provide recommendations and solutions to complex and highly influential issues.
  • Political acuity to recognize sensitive situations and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
