Job summary

National Bank of Canada is seeking a Senior Advisor, Consumer Protection Compliance within the Retail and Commercial Compliance team. Hybrid work arrangement and a focus on regulatory compliance, governance, and risk management define this role.

You will lead design and enhancement of the compliance framework, coordinate governance, and advise on regulatory interpretations while collaborating with business lines and control functions. Strong communication with senior leadership is essential.

Qualifications

• Hold a university degree and 6–10 years of experience in regulatory compliance, legal affairs, or risk management within a financial institution.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian consumer protection legislation and the regulatory environment applicable to financial institutions.
• Experience implementing compliance frameworks, governance structures, or risk management programs.
• Experience managing relationships with regulatory authorities, including examinations and regulatory reviews.
• Translate complex regulatory requirements into practical, sustainable solutions that meet organizational needs.
• Strong communication skills with senior leadership and experience producing executive-level reporting.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation, and continuous enhancement of the Consumer Protection Compliance Framework to ensure alignment with applicable regulatory requirements.
• Establish and maintain governance through policies, standards, controls, monitoring activities, reporting processes, and escalation mechanisms.
• Ensure consistent application of consumer protection requirements and management of related compliance risks in collaboration with business lines and control functions.
• Advise stakeholders on interpretation of laws, regulations, and supervisory expectations while providing strategic guidance on regulatory and conduct risks.
• Represent the Bank in interactions with regulatory authorities, including information requests, examinations, audits, mandatory reporting, and industry consultations.
• Develop investigation processes, risk metrics, dashboards, and training programs promoting fairness, transparency, and responsible conduct.
