The Senior Advisor, Clinical Cardiac is a key senior member of the clinical portfolio, providing expert clinical leadership to advance the mandate and long‑term strategy of the Cardiac Program. The role leads and supports high‑impact initiatives, consultations, and partnerships that strengthen clinical best practice, evidence‑based care, and system‑level planning across Ontario’s cardiac system. Drawing on advanced knowledge of the cardiac system, the delivery of cardiac care, current best practices, and evidence‑based standards in cardiac care, the Senior Advisor develops and interprets clinical standards and critically evaluates peer‑reviewed literature and emerging evidence to inform provincial planning, implementation, and continuous improvement. This includes identifying emerging clinical issues and translating evidence into meaningful patient‑facing and clinician‑facing tools and resources that support high‑quality, patient‑centred care. The Senior Advisor brings expert clinical knowledge, experience, and insight to the development and implementation of strategy, health system policy, system planning, and performance measurement for Ontario’s provincial cardiac programs. Working within a broad and complex portfolio, the role provides trusted advice and recommendations that help inform high‑impact system‑level decisions. The Senior Advisor also develops and maintains program policies, clinical resources, standards, and tools, partnering with relevant teams across Ontario Health to ensure alignment with organizational policies, strategic priorities, and broader system objectives. The role prepares high‑quality briefing notes, presentations, and recommendations for senior audiences and ensures key strategic priorities are embedded into expert consultations and advice to healthcare partners and stakeholders.
Provide senior clinical leadership and subject matter expertise in cardiac care, planning, leading, and executing complex projects, policies, initiatives, and consultations that advance evidence‑based best practices. Serve as a trusted clinical advisor, providing expert guidance on cardiac care, clinical best practices, and health literacy across Ontario Health. Lead the development, dissemination, and implementation of clinical resources, quality standards, policies, guidelines, and educational materials, ensuring they are evidence‑based, equitable, inclusive, and accessible. Provide coaching, mentorship, and education to colleagues and clinical partners, building internal capacity through workshops, knowledge exchange, and practical tools and resources. Proactively identify emerging issues, risks, and opportunities, developing mitigation strategies and innovative solutions to support program objectives.
Serve as an expert resource in evidence synthesis, literature review, guideline appraisal, and interpretation of clinical evidence related to cardiac conditions. Apply rigorous methodologies and appraisal tools to assess evidence and evaluate the quality, effectiveness, and implementation of clinical resources and initiatives. Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses to identify system‑level trends, gaps, barriers, and opportunities for improvement. Identify barriers to the adoption of cardiac best practices across Ontario and develop strategies to support uptake, implementation, and sustainability. Identify opportunities to improve operational workflows, efficiency, quality, and consistency in the delivery of cardiac care.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health, Clinical Leads, hospital administrators, patient and family advisors, Ontario Health programs, committees, and healthcare partners. Lead consultations and engagement activities to understand stakeholder needs, identify priorities, and incorporate clinical, patient, caregiver, and system perspectives into program initiatives. Facilitate committees, working groups, and expert consultations, effectively managing expectations, communications, competing priorities, and deliverables. Collaborate across Ontario Health to ensure cardiac initiatives are aligned with broader organizational strategies, policies, and system priorities. Demonstrate collaborative leadership and integrity while building consensus and supporting effective decision‑making across diverse stakeholder groups.
Lead knowledge translation and exchange activities within Ontario Health and across the broader healthcare system to support adoption of clinical best practices. Develop innovative approaches to sharing clinical information and resources, including digital tools, online resources, webinars, infographics, and other accessible formats. Develop and maintain toolkits, education resources, and guidance materials to support teams in creating high‑quality, patient‑centred cardiac care resources. Coordinate resources and activities to ensure projects and initiatives are delivered on time, on target, and aligned with program objectives. Share knowledge across teams and programs through clear written and verbal communication, ensuring work is coordinated and supports broader provincial priorities.
A strong understanding of Ontario’s health care system, including gaps between actual and ideal care, reasons for these gaps, and potential mechanisms available to address them. A strong understanding of how research, data and clinical best practices can be incorporated into the evaluation of the health care system. A strong understanding of health literacy, healthy equity and social determinants of health, and how these intersect to impact health outcomes in people with cardiac conditions in Ontario. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely articulate key messages that resonate with different stakeholders and audiences, effectively facilitate a group of stakeholders (including patients, clinicians), create and deliver effective presentations, and prepare resources, briefing notes and reports.
