Job summary

Co-operators is seeking a temporary full-time actuary to support pricing and product work for wealth products, including annuities and funds. The role operates in English, with a hybrid work model (2 days in office) and a 14-month term.

Ideal candidates are pursuing CIA/SOA and have solvency-focused actuarial experience. The position emphasizes professional ethics, continuous improvement, and collaboration within a supportive team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science from CIA-accredited university or relevant discipline.
  • Insurance industry experience including actuarial modeling.
  • Pursuing CIA or SOA designation and within 1 year of Associateship.
  • Strong computing skills including Microsoft Office and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Completing pricing and product support for wealth products (annuities, funds, retirement).
  • Analyzing assumptions, creating projections, running quotes.
  • Developing understanding of actuarial concepts and applying them to conclusions.
  • Communicating actuarial concepts within the department, crafting official communications.
  • Training and mentoring junior staff.

How You Will Create Impact
  • Completing pricing and product support work for various wealth products including individual annuities, group annuities, segregated funds, and group retirement. This may entail analyzing assumptions, creating projections, running quotes, etc.
  • Developing a broad understanding of the practical applications of actuarial concepts and use them to develop conclusions.
  • Communicating basic actuarial concepts within the department both verbally and in writing, and prepare official communication within the department.
  • Upholding professional ethics, values, policies and procedures that support the company’s and profession’s standards.
  • Utilizing and developing Actuarial Knowledge and experience gained through research and development initiatives as well as education learning.
  • Training and mentoring junior staff.
To Join Our Team
  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science from a Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA)-accredited university or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • You have insurance industry experience including actuarial modeling.
  • You are actively pursuing a designation with the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) or The Society of Actuaries (SOA) and are within one year of attaining your Associateship with either organizations
  • You have strong computing skills including experience with Microsoft Office and Excel.

Expected salary range $69,660 - $116,100

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
