Your Opportunity
Stantec Canada's Noise, Vibration, and Acoustics team is seeking driven professionals to support the building acoustics service line. The successful candidate will possess at least 8 years of relevant experience. The candidate will demonstrate proficiency in client management and technical aspects of complex projects within the built environment. Additionally, the candidate should have experience in integrating acoustic principles into the design of high-performance buildings.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Be an integrated member of the noise, vibration and acoustics team – participating in training discussions, coordination and health and safety initiatives
- Work with the Noise, Vibration and Acoustics (NVA) group’s building acoustic lead to deliver and support building acoustic projects for both internal and external clients.
- Be proactive and motivated to meet agreed deadlines.
- Manage building acoustics projects from inception to close while completing project deliverables on schedule, within scope and budget.
- Collaborate with project managers and project teams to support completion of acoustic scope and deliverables on multi-discipline Stantec projects.
- Lead/support the preparation of effective technical proposals.
- Undertake architectural acoustic and vibration design, including evaluating, specifying, and designing noise and vibration controls for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.
- Develop clear recommendations and communicate via written documents and sketches to clients, architects, engineers, and contractors.
- Lead meetings and workshops with clients, including preparing and carrying out presentations.
- Conduct and/or supervise field reviews during contract administration, review shop drawings and support the construction phase of projects.
- Responsible for project financial management.
- Conduct site visits, undertake research, data collection/field surveys, data summary, and document observations.
- Maintain professional growth through seminars, workshops, and memberships to stay current with trends, software, and technology.
- Conduct data collection, desktop technical analysis, modeling, post-processing, interpretation, and documentation of results.
- Lead streamlining and standardizing methods for data collection and analysis.
- Oversee and train junior/intermediate staff in field work, analysis, and report writing.
- Collaborate with practitioners across multiple offices globally.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Knowledge of architectural acoustics, mechanical HVAC noise control design, and vibration isolation; strong mechanical noise background preferred.
- Experience with Design-Build and P3 project delivery models is an asset.
- Familiarity with noise and vibration data acquisition practices and software.
- Experience with building acoustics testing (ASTC, AIIC, NC).
- Experience with sound and vibration measurement instruments and modeling software (e.g., CADNA/A, TNM, STAMSON, INSUL, EASE).
- Proven teamwork and client communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CAD, and related software.
- Creative, organized, capable of multitasking independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Detail-oriented with a desire to learn.
- Flexibility for site surveys, travel, and fieldwork outside normal hours.
- A valid driver’s license and willingness for occasional travel within Canada and internationally.
Education and Experience
- Relevant engineering or technical degree from an accredited university or college.
- Minimum 8 years of consulting experience in architectural acoustics or mechanical noise consulting.
- Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or other provinces is an asset.
