Job Details: Senior Acoustics and Vibration Engineer

Join a coast-to-coast collaborative and aspirational Canadian acoustics and vibration team. Be part of a wider SLR collaborative environmental and engineering team of over 4000 members worldwide.

Where do we need you?
Preference is to be based in Guelph, ON to be with the other regional team members but with flexible work options. Expectations for at least two days in the office, with flexibility as needed. Flexible on location for the right candidate. Travel across North America isn’t typical but may be required for projects or team related activities. Travel within Canada is a possibility, especially locally in Ontario.

We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients across the world through the integration of advisory and over 30 technical environmental and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability.

How will you fit into the team?
As our new Senior Acoustics and Vibration Engineer with a passion for working on environmental and architectural related projects, you will play your part to contribute to our global acoustics and vibration team’s vision to be the world’s most trusted and innovative authority in acoustics and vibration consulting, recognized for delivering exceptional results that shape environments where sound and vibration enhance the world.

Key Responsibilities
• Acoustics and vibration assessments/design inputs on challenging projects including:

  1. Building and land development for various project types such as residential, commercial, healthcare, education, performance venues, and community.
  2. Industrial, manufacturing, transit, mining, power and energy sites including permitting, environmental assessments, complaint investigations and auditing.
  3. Sound and vibration monitoring campaigns for construction, baseline collection, complaint investigations.

• The day-to-day experience is dependent on the nature of projects within the business at the time but typically includes:
  1. Development of new models and applications related to sound and vibration.
  2. Conducting and supporting others with sound and vibration monitoring and measurement campaigns, throughout the year.
  3. Working to streamline and standardize data collection and analysis.
  4. Preparing and presenting technical reports, along with QA/QC review of reports.
  5. Coordinating projects to maintain schedule and budgets including proposals, coordination, management.
  6. Contributing to business development and growth for SLR and the acoustics and vibration team.
  7. Supporting the development and review of QA/QC procedures.

Expected Qualifications and Skills
• Experience working on Canadian acoustics and vibration environmental and building design projects. At least 5 years of experience in consulting expected.
• Degree in engineering, physics, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
• P.Eng., or eligible for P. Eng. certification in Ontario.
• Expert on the fundamentals and approaches used to measure, predict and evaluate acoustics, noise and vibration.
• Proficiency with computational and office suite software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Teams and SharePoint, MATLAB, finite element modeling packages, etc.).
• Experience with sound and vibration modeling software (e.g., CadnaA, SoundPLAN, CATT, Odeon or EASE, SAP).
• Staff training and mentoring experience are desired and expected as part of the role.
• Flexible, multi-tasking work habits, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Highly organized, reliable, creative, innovative, adaptable and energetic worker as well as a fast learner.
• Excellent and confident written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• Driven to exceed expectations and push for excellence.
• Must be able to live and work in Canada, and preferably to the US for occasional project work as required.
