Job description

At Parallel Domain, we believe that autonomous systems – from self-driving cars to contactless delivery drones – have the opportunity to drastically improve the quality of life for billions of people. That is why we love what we do: enabling our customers to develop their technology safely using the Parallel Domain simulated testing platform.

We are seeking a Senior Accounting Manager / Assistant Controller to lead our finance function during a critical stage of growth. Reporting directly to the CEO and based in our Vancouver office, you will own our global accounting operations, drive financial reporting and compliance, and act as a key business partner across the organization.

This is a broad leadership role that combines hands-on accounting with financial planning, analysis, and operational support. You will manage our US, Canadian, and German entities, oversee external accounting partners, and ensure timely and accurate reporting. In addition, you will support the CEO and leadership team with budgets, financial analysis, and operational decision-making. You will also provide lightweight operations and people support, including coordination with external providers and development of scalable processes that enable a growing workforce.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accounting & Compliance: Own day-to-day accounting operations across the US, Canada, and Germany, including GL, AP/AR, payroll, and expense management. Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close and consolidations. Ensure compliance with US GAAP and local statutory requirements, oversee tax filings, and manage relationships with external accountants, payroll providers, and other partners.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Deliver timely financial statements, management reports, and KPI dashboards for the CEO and leadership team. Support company-wide planning and forecasting for headcount, budgets, and expenses. Partner with business leaders to provide financial insights, scenario modeling, and analysis that inform strategic decisions.
  • Business Operations & People Support: Build scalable policies, processes, and tools to support a growing workforce. Oversee coordination with HR and payroll providers to ensure smooth onboarding, payroll, and benefits administration. Provide lightweight people operations support and contribute to company-wide initiatives that intersect with finance, operations, and people management.
  • Systems & Scaling: Implement and optimize financial systems and tools to improve efficiency and scalability. Strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and reporting workflows. Drive automation of recurring finance and operational tasks to free up capacity for strategic work.
  • Leadership & Team Development: Act as the senior-most finance leader in the organization, reporting directly to the CEO. Mentor and guide future finance and operations hires as the team expands. Transition work from external providers to in-house staff over time, while continuing to manage external partners during the growth phase.
Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, ideally including both public accounting and within a fast-moving, dynamic environment.
  • CPA (or equivalent) strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP; familiarity with Canadian and German statutory accounting a plus.
  • Demonstrated success managing multi-entity, multi-currency accounting operations.
  • Experience supporting FP&A, budgeting, and KPI reporting in a scaling company.
  • Exposure to SaaS revenue recognition and enterprise B2B business models.
  • Proven ability to implement scalable systems, processes, and internal controls.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to partner across functions and act as a trusted advisor to executives.
  • Hands-on, proactive, and comfortable balancing tactical work with strategic initiatives.
Nice to Have:
  • Prior experience at a fast-paced startup or high-growth environment.
  • Familiarity with modern finance and ops tools (QuickBooks Online, Ramp, Google Suite, HRIS systems).
  • Experience with people operations or business operations in addition to finance.
  • Experience with FP&A and financial modelling, or willingness to learn is a plus
