Reporting to the Finance Director, the Senior Accountant - Taxation will lead tax processes and activities, providing accurate and quality information, to ensure full and timely compliance with all internal and external tax obligations of Gold Fields companies in Canada; all of the above in accordance with the Policies, Internal Procedures and Corporate Values. The employee will work a 5-day on, 2-day off schedule, teleworking, with occasional travel to our Montreal offices and the Windfall site.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Preparation and documentation of actual and potential strategic tax transactions, with the aim of informing the local and corporate leadership team of their impacts.
  • Implement and review the company's tax balance sheet, ensuring the implementation of controls and proper reconciliation with the company's financial statements.
  • Ensure the correct and appropriate recognition of the company's current and deferred taxes in accordance with the requirements of IFRS and IAS 12 specifically.
  • Ensure compliance with SAP processes for direct and indirect tax transactions and include improvements in the company's master data.
  • Prepare tax account reconciliations and follow up on any open or unreconciled items.
  • Prepare tax information for local financial statements that the company is required by law to publish.
  • Ensure proper implementation of SOX controls on all matters related to internal and external tax records.
  • Collaborate and ensure compliance regarding government rebates (GST, QST, deductions at source, etc.).
  • Ensure the correct and appropriate recognition of depreciation and amortization of the Fixed assets and intangibles for tax purposes.
  • Manage the preparation and submission of required direct and indirect tax filings in Canada and attend to all matters arising (including queries from the Revenue Authority and disputes) in this regard.
  • Provide support to the Finance and Legal team.
  • Provide regular updates and coordinate with the Group Tax Function.
  • Perform any other tasks related to the position of senior accountant - taxation, as relevant to the success of the project and other ventures of the Gold Fields Group in Canada.

Required qualifications

  • Minimum of seven (7) years' experience in a similar position;
  • University degree in accounting, finance or a related field;
  • Member of the “Ordre des CPA” (an asset);
  • Experience in mining, heavy industry or major infrastructure projects;
  • Bilingual (French and English), will have to work with English-speaking consultants and collaborators.

Technical skills

  • Good knowledge of the Office Suite software;
  • Advanced SAP management;
  • IFRS and IAS 12 income tax and deferred taxes;
  • Expertise in consumption taxes and deductions at source;
  • Excellent knowledge of corporate tax, Quebec mining tax and Canadian indirect taxes.
