Job summary

MNP is seeking a Senior Accountant to join Indigenous Services. You will support clients across Canada by preparing balance sheets, P&L, and government reporting, acting as a trusted advisor to Indigenous communities and organizations.

Bring CPA designation and 2–4 years of public accounting experience, with GAAP/PSAS knowledge; travel as needed; mentor junior staff; contribute to business development. First Nations experience is an asset.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 to 4 years of relevant public accounting experience.
• Extensive knowledge of GAAP, Not-For-Profit accounting standards, and PSAS.
• Experience working with accounting and tax software.
• Understanding of business, accounting, management and practice development principles.

Responsibilities

• Summarize clients’ current financial status by collecting information and preparing periodic balance sheet, profit and loss statements and other relevant reports.
• Assist client with government required reporting.
• Assess and assure appropriateness of audit evidence for expenses, revenues, capital asset additions, accounts payable, accounts receivable and prepaid expenses.
• Work with Indigenous Services Canada and other funders to gather requirements and help clients stay on track with reporting.
• Support audit readiness by organizing documents, sharing best practices, and connecting with external auditors when needed.
• Review, investigate and correct discrepancies and irregularities in financial entries, documents and reports.
• Establish charts of accounts and prepare entries for posting to accounts.
• Prepare correspondence, technical reports, client summaries and presentations outlining engagement findings, facts and highlights.
• Develop effective working relationships with clients while coaching and mentoring junior team members.
• Participate in business development initiatives and identify new business opportunities.
• Maintain flexibility to travel, as necessary

Skills And Experience

• CPA designation
• Experience working with First Nations communities considered an asset
• Minimum 2 to 4 years of relevant public accounting experience
• Extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Not-For-Profit accounting standards, and Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS)
• Experience working with accounting and tax software
• Understanding of business, accounting, management and practice development principles

The annual salary range for this position is $50,000 - $80,000.
