About Us

Top Down is a full-service investment firm providing capital and hands-on scaling expertise to emerging software companies. We specialize in the Managed Service Provider (MSP) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) sectors, bringing deep operational, sales, and marketing experience to every investment. Our unique go-to-market platform enables portfolio companies to stay focused on product and execution, while we drive the strategy alongside them.

We're a team built around the principle of Growth Through Execution, and we are committed to hiring top-tier talent to help our companies scale faster, stronger, and smarter.

Our Values

We have built a culture around three key principles that drive high performance, accountability, and meaningful work:

  • Autonomy - We believe people do their best work when they take ownership. That means being trusted to make decisions, solve problems independently, and raise the bar, not waiting for instructions or hand-holding.
  • Performance - We care about outcomes. Results speak louder than time spent. You'll be measured by the impact of your work, not how late you stay online.
  • Passion - We're a team that's driven, purpose-oriented, and proud of the wins we create together. We celebrate success, but we're not here to coast, we're here to build!

The Opportunity

We're looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team and report directly to the Controller. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a CPA designation (or equivalent experience) who thrives in a fast-moving SaaS environment and is eager to take ownership of core accounting functions. If you're someone who enjoys balancing precision with big-picture thinking, and you're ready to make an impact - this role is for you.

Responsibilities

  • Own full-cycle accounting for several portfolio companies, including daily bookkeeping, period-end close processes, and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Process payroll across entities, ensuring compliance with relevant tax and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and update monthly financial reporting packages, including key SaaS metrics and analysis of results.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis across both operating companies and the venture fund.
  • Handle ad hoc requests and inquiries from stakeholders across multiple entities, prioritizing effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Create and analyze financial reports, visualizing key insights through charts and tables for clear decision-making.
  • Lead or contribute to accounting and finance projects, including process improvements, systems upgrades, and controls implementation.
  • Act as a liaison between Finance and other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Support the Controller with fund accounting and reporting requirements.
  • Take ownership of tasks and continuously look for opportunities to improve workflows, accuracy, and reporting quality.
  • Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation (Canada) or an equivalent accounting qualification; alternatively, at least 10 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a senior-level accounting role.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills in English.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Advanced proficiency with spreadsheets and presentation tools (e.g., Excel, Google Sheets, PowerPoint, Google Slides).
  • Comfortable researching industry benchmarks and integrating insights into regular financial reporting.
  • Experience with SaaS tools and finance systems such as Xero and Asana.
  • Familiarity with data visualization and financial analysis tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is an asset.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and anticipate needs without requiring constant oversight.
  • Highly organized with a track record of managing competing priorities and following through on tasks to completion.
  • High attention to detail, with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Adaptable and confident working in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment.

Perks!

  • Work within the Top Down Campus, a collaborative work environment with cross-functional teams, across multiple, rapid-growth SaaS companies at varying stages of growth.
  • Benefit from mentorship from industry veterans with a 100% track record of industry success in funding and scaling software companies, creating endless career opportunities.
  • Access a training and professional development budget to help advance your career and skills.
  • Enjoy world-class offices and facilities in downtown Vancouver's most exclusive business neighborhood with beautiful ocean and mountain views.
  • Take advantage of fully stocked amenities, including a bar, organic local coffee, snacks, food, and an on-site gym.
  • Top-tier benefits package including 100% extended health and dental coverage.
