Job summary

TEEMA seeks an experienced Senior Construction Accountant to manage accounts payable and accounts receivable for a West Edmonton project-focused construction team. The role reports to the Controller and requires strong integrity, accuracy and confidentiality in handling banking access and financial information.

The successful candidate will perform month-end close support, maintain project cost accounting, and collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate billing and reporting.

Qualifications

• CPA designation in good standing
• Five+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Hands-on AP/AR experience in construction or related industry
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and internal controls
• Advanced Excel and use of accounting software
• Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail

Responsibilities

• Manage complete AP cycle: invoices, coding, approvals
• Prepare payments, EFTs and banking transactions
• Reconcile vendor statements and vendor onboarding
• Oversee AR: client invoicing, progress billing, aging reports
• Apply payments and reconcile customer accounts
• Support month-end/year-end closing and financial reporting
• Maintain internal controls and documentation

Job Title: Senior Construction Accountant – Accounts Payable & Receivable

Overview:
Operating across Canada for over 30 years, our client is a trusted design-builder specializing in food-processing facilities, cold storage, distribution centres, CNG/LNG conversions and institutional projects. As the company continues to grow, they are seeking an experienced, trustworthy and hands‑on Construction Accountant to join their West Edmonton office. Reporting to the Controller, the Construction Accountant will take primary responsibility for accounts payable and accounts receivable functions while providing broader accounting and financial support. This is a hands‑on role with access to sensitive financial information and company banking platforms. The successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional integrity, discretion, accuracy and accountability. This is a fully in‑office position based in West Edmonton. Remote and hybrid work arrangements are not available for this role.

What you will be doing:

Accounts Payable

• Manage the complete accounts payable cycle, including reviewing, coding and processing vendor and subcontractor invoices
• Confirm that invoices have appropriate supporting documentation and approvals
• Allocate costs accurately to the appropriate projects, cost codes and general ledger accounts
• Prepare payment runs, EFTs and other approved banking transactions
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve invoice or payment discrepancies
• Maintain accurate vendor records and support vendor onboarding
• Respond to vendor and internal payment inquiries
• Monitor subcontractor documentation, holdbacks and payment requirements
• Complete and ensure accuracy of credit applications

Accounts Receivable

• Oversee the preparation and issuing of accurate client and project invoices
• Support progress billing and other construction‑specific billing requirements
• Track receivables and maintain current aging reports
• Apply incoming payments and reconcile customer accounts
• Follow up professionally on outstanding accounts
• Investigate billing discrepancies and coordinate with project teams to resolve them
• Maintain organized billing records and supporting documentation

Accounting and Banking

• Perform bank, credit‑card and balance‑sheet account reconciliations
• Assist with cash‑flow monitoring and authorized banking transactions
• Maintain strict security and confidentiality when accessing company banking systems
• Prepare journal entries, reconciliations and supporting schedulesSupport month‑end and year‑end closing activities
• Assist with financial reporting, budgeting, audits and tax‑related information requests
• Review financial information for accuracy, completeness and compliance with established accounting practices
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, approval processes and financial procedures
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, documentation and reporting
• Provide accounting guidance and support to project managers and other internal departments
• Assist the Controller with additional accounting projects and responsibilities as required

What you must have:

• Current Canadian CPA designation in good standing
• Relevant accounting and finance experience, including hands‑on experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable
• At least five years of progressive accounting experience
• Previous accounting experience in construction, engineering, project‑based services or a related industry
• Demonstrated hands‑on experience managing both accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, general ledger accounting, reconciliations and financial controls
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience using accounting software
• Exceptional integrity and sound judgment when handling banking access, payments and confidential financial information
• Strong analytical, organizational and problem‑solving skills
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of responsibilities and manage competing deadlines
• Professional communication skills when dealing with vendors, clients, financial institutions and internal teams
• Reliable attendance and the ability to work from the West Edmonton office each business day

Nice to have:

• Experience with project costing, progress billing, holdbacks and subcontractor payments
• Experience using Spectrum Construction Software
• Experience supporting multiple legal entities, business units or operating locations
• Familiarity with construction contracts and related financial documentation

Salary/Rate Range:

$60,000 – $95,000.00
