Job summary

MNP is seeking a Senior Accountant in Toronto, ON, to join our Assurance & Accounting team. This on-site role involves leading compilation, review, audits and tax engagements for private enterprises while mentoring junior staff.

The position requires 2–4 years of public accounting experience, CPA progression, and strong knowledge of ASPE, GAAP, IFRS, and related accounting software. Expect a collaborative, high-performance environment with travel flexibility.

Qualifications

• CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA.
• 2 to 4 years of public accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of ASPE, GAAP, IFRS and SEC where applicable.
• Experience with accounting and tax software.
• Understanding of business, accounting, management and practice development principles.

Responsibilities

• Conduct compilation, review, audit, bookkeeping and tax engagements.
• Set up files for new clients and newly incorporated businesses; manage multiple files and conduct inventory counts.
• Handle accounts receivable, accounts payable, asset acquisition/disposition and payroll walkthroughs with clients.
• Summarize clients' financial status with balance sheets and income statements.
• Assess audit evidence for expenses, revenues, assets, payables and prepaids.
• Investigate and correct discrepancies in entries and reports.
• Establish charts of accounts and prepare postings.
• Prepare correspondence, technical reports, client summaries and presentations on engagements.
• Mentor junior team members and build client relationships.
• Participate in business development and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform accounts receivable, accounts payable, capital asset acquisition and disposition and payroll walk-through with clients
• Summarize clients' current financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statements and other relevant reports
• Assess and assure appropriateness of audit evidence for expenses, revenues, capital asset additions, accounts payable, accounts receivable and prepaid expenses
• Review, investigate and correct discrepancies and irregularities in financial entries, documents and reports
• Establish charts of accounts and prepare entries for posting to accounts
• Prepare correspondence, technical reports, client summaries and presentations outlining engagement findings, facts and highlights
• Develop effective working relationships with clients while coaching and mentoring junior team members
• Participate in business development initiatives and identify new business opportunities
• Maintain flexibility to travel, as necessary

Skills and Experience

• CPA designation or working towards a CPA designation
• 2 to 4 years of relevant public accounting experience
• Extensive knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
• Experience working with accounting and tax software
• Understanding of business, accounting, management and practice development principles
