Senior Accountant (Assurance & Accounting) - CPA Public Practice

SHIM & Associates LLP, a growing CPA firm specializing in Audit, Review, Compilation, Tax, and Consulting services, is seeking a highly motivated Senior Accountant to join the team. The candidate should be detail-oriented, possess the necessary skills and experience, and have a positive, professional attitude with the ability to work independently. The Senior Accountant will assist Managers and Partners with tasks such as preparing working papers for audits, reviews, compilations, and tax engagements; preparing financial reporting packages; managing tax matters; and handling ad hoc projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
  1. Audits, Reviews, and Compilations:
    • Conduct audits and reviews for publicly listed entities.
    • Prepare working papers using CaseWare for compilation engagements for small business clients.
    • Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements and notes, including management’s discussion and analysis.
    • Monitor and ensure compliance with evolving accounting standards, interpret IFRS, and prepare technical memos.
    • Ensure adherence to IFRS reporting and disclosure requirements.
    • Coordinate with external auditors for reviews and audits.
    • Maintain the external reporting calendar.
    • Implement and communicate changes in financial reporting processes.
  2. Taxation:
    • Manage tax compliance with service providers and government agencies.
    • Assist in tax planning strategies as needed.
  3. Other Responsibilities:
    • Assist with corporate matters.
    • Prepare monthly budgets and financial reports.
    • Identify internal control issues and suggest improvements.
    • Perform internal audit procedures as required.
    • Handle other assigned projects.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  1. Qualifications:
    • Minimum 3 years of Canadian work experience, with at least 2 years in public practice or public company experience.
    • Enrolled in CPA PEP, with CFE completion or newly designated.
    • Strong knowledge of IFRS and ability to research complex accounting issues.
  2. Skills & Attributes:
    • Experience with CaseWare, Profile, QuickBooks, Sage 50.
    • Solid understanding of financial statements and internal controls (COSO framework).
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
    • Detail-oriented, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • High confidentiality and integrity.
    • Customer service orientation.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
