POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting into the Director of Finance, the Senior Accountant/Analyst will oversee our Indigenous entities, assist in budget/forecast processes, lead the year-end review engagement, and assist in month-end related tasks.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Financial Planning & Analysis:
  • Prepare variance reports comparing actual performance to budgets and forecasts.
  • Assist the Accounting Manager in preparing monthly financial statements and reporting packages.
  • Analyze P&L discrepancies.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:
    • Assist the Director of Finance in developing the annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and maintain financial models to support P&L reviews.
  • Accounting:
    • Prepare financial statements (income statement & balance sheet) and Work in Progress (WIP) reports for joint venture and partnership entities.
    • Become a subject matter expert (SME) with Indigenous relationships, including joint ventures, partnerships, and subsidiaries.
    • Ensure GST setup is done correctly for the entity.
    • Lead and be the main contact for year-end review engagement and audit for Indigenous partnerships.
    • Complete quarterly capital asset reviews and potential impairment testing with the operational team.
    • Stay up-to-date with current ASPE requirements and apply them accordingly.
  • Other:
    • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Finance processes.
    • Learn Data Rails (FP&A platform) and become an SME.
    • Utilize technology and AI to improve efficiency.
    • Assist and support finance team members with various ad hoc reports and requests.
    • Support internal IT needs with external IT Managed Service Provider.
  • Health and Safety:
    • Follow Milestone's Health and Safety Program, Policy, and Procedures. Participate in H&S initiatives.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Education & Certification:
    • Bachelor's degree
    • CPA designation
  • Experience:
    • 3-5 years in accounting or finance.
    • Experience with CPA firms, construction industry, or Indigenous partners is preferred but not required.
    • Minimum 1 year post-designation experience.
    • Hands-on experience with financial statement preparation, analysis, and reconciliation.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong communication skills.
    • Organized with attention to detail.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
    • Adaptable to fast-paced environments.
    • Knowledge of ASPE standards and relevant regulations.
    • Understanding of revenue recognition and WIP in project environments.
    • Positive attitude and calm demeanor.

    The typical salary range for this position is $85,000 to $95,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
