Here's how a Senior Accountant in our Winnipeg office contributes to our team:

Responsibilities

  • Perform general accounting and administrative functions to meet contractual requirements for operational and basic accounting.
  • Complete all financial transactions in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in monthly forecast review meetings.
  • Provide project teams with ad hoc reports and analysis as needed.
  • Assist with assembling information for internal and external financial reporting requirements.
  • Assemble client billing packages according to contract terms and ensure timely payment.
  • Prepare bank deposits, monthly reconciliations, and cash receipt entries.
  • Identify irregularities or risk exposures and support strategy development to address them.
  • Ensure all required documentation, including insurance, bonding, SDI, workers' compensation, statutory declarations, and lien waivers, is in place.
  • Read contracts and interpret trade partner documentation for accounting-related items; assist with project setup procedures.
  • Identify and communicate compliance and project risks with the project team and accounting management.
  • Mentor and coach staff; assign and oversee daily tasks of accounting students or other accountants.

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in accounting and/or finance.
  • Active pursuit of CPA designation.
  • 6 years of progressive accounting experience in construction or a related industry preferred.
  • Construction experience considered an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of full-cycle accounting, project forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, including ledger maintenance and cash flow analysis, with the ability to recommend strategies.
  • Intermediate knowledge of government legislation and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Intermediate understanding of lien rights and bid and contract securities, insurance, risk management, claims, and pricing.
  • Intermediate knowledge of subcontract PO terms, including insurance, SDI, and bonding requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software.
