Job summary

Triton Environmental Consultants Ltd. seeks a Senior Accountant to deliver accurate financial reporting and own the month-end close in a fast-paced Vancouver environment.

You will partner with the Accounting Manager to drive timely, compliant closes and support ongoing process improvements. The role requires 2–4+ years of progressive accounting experience, advanced Excel, ERP systems (NetSuite a plus), and strong communication skills to coordinate with cross-functional teams and ensure audit

Qualifications

  • 2–4+ years progressive accounting experience.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups).
  • ERP experience; NetSuite considered an asset.
  • Ability to prioritize deadlines and deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Month-end close ownership and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review journal entries including accruals and depreciation.
  • Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • Support audit, internal controls, and annual statements.

Position Overview

Join our team as a Senior Accountant and play a pivotal role in delivering accurate, timely financial reporting while helping drive a best-in-class close process. In this high-impact role, you’ll partner closely with the Accounting Manager, take ownership of key deliverables in a fast-paced environment, and identify smarter, more efficient ways to streamline and automate accounting operations. Key Responsibilities
Month-End Close (Primary Focus)
  • Support the month-end close process, ensuring completion within established timelines
  • Prepare and/or review key journal entries, including:
  • Accruals and prepaids
  • Fixed assets and depreciation
  • Revenue and expense recognition
  • Own balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring completeness and accuracy
  • Investigate and resolve variances and unusual items promptly
  • Coordinate close activities with cross-functional teams (Invoicing, AP & Payroll teams.)
  • Prepare close packages and supporting schedules for leadership review (Financials and AR reporting especially)
  • Continuously improve and shorten the close cycle
  • Assist in preparation of monthly and annual financial statements
  • Ensure compliance with ASPE
  • Support internal management reporting and variance analysis monthly.
  • Provide clear insights into financial results and trends
Process Improvement & Controls
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities
  • Strengthen and maintain internal controls over financial reporting
  • Develop and maintain standardized templates and documentation
  • Support system enhancements and accounting-related projects
Operational Accounting
  • Oversee key accounting areas such as:
  • Payroll-related entries and reconciliations
  • Fixed asset tracking and capitalization policies
  • Support key accounting areas such as:
  • Revenue, AR/AP oversight, and intercompany transactions
  • Ensure proper documentation and audit readiness
Audit & Compliance
  • Support external audits and year-end activities
  • Prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor requests
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and external requirements
Qualifications
  • 2-4+ years of progressive accounting experience (minimum)
  • Strong experience with full-cycle accounting and month-end close ownership
  • Public accounting background is an asset but not required. Industry experience is preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
  • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite considered an asset)
  • Ownership mindset : Takes full responsibility for deadlines and deliverables
  • Attention to detail with strong analytical skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing deadlines, especially during close
  • Strong communication skills with ability to elevate issues early
  • Continuous improvement mentality (process, automation, efficiency)
  • Ability to partner effectively with leadership and cross-functional teams

  • Month-end close is consistently on time (or faster) and error-free
  • Balance sheet accounts are fully reconciled and well-supported
  • Issues are identified and resolved proactively (no surprises)
  • Processes become more efficient, standardized, and scalable
  • The Accounting Manager can rely on this role as a trusted extension / deputy
