Left On Friday Inc. is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their finance team in Vancouver. This role focuses on managing daily accounting functions, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance across jurisdictions. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting fundamentals, experience in retail or ecommerce, and profound analytical skills to support business growth.
We’re one of the fastest-growing direct-to-consumer retail brands and we're looking for a Senior Accountant to join our small but mighty finance team. Reporting to the CFO, you’ll play a key role in managing daily accounting functions, month-end close, compliance, and financial reporting. This is a hands-on role requiring someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
You’ll bring strong accounting fundamentals, experience in both Canadian and U.S. entities, and a deep curiosity for building scalable processes that support growth. Core Responsibilities :
Financial Systems and Controls :
Own the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
Review financial statements and maintain general ledger reconciliations.
Manage and improve internal controls, policies, and procedures.
Support the annual review process and serve as the primary point of contact for external accounting and tax partners.
Financial Operations & Reporting :
Oversee sales tax filings and compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
Monitor cash flow and assist in forecasting short- and long-term liquidity needs.
Support in the delivery of monthly reporting packages, dashboards, and margin analysis
Systems & Process Improvement :
Help design and scale accounting workflows that support rapid growth.
Drive improvements across ERP, payroll, and inventory systems.
Identify automation opportunities and improve reporting capabilities.
Strategic & Cross-Functional Support
Partner with the CFO on budgeting, scenario planning, and performance tracking. Review and finalize financial statements and reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
Provide ad hoc analysis to support executive decision-making and investor reporting.
Communicate financial insights clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
Oversee and mentor the Junior Accountant.
Help hire, train, and onboard future finance team members as the team grows.
Champion process improvements and support the development of team KPIs.
Qualifications & Competencies
6–8 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a D2C, retail, or ecommerce environment.
Expert skillset in Excel and Googleheets.
Strong understanding of U.S. and Canadian financial reporting, and tax compliance.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation (or in progress) preferred.
Hands-on experience with accounting tools like Xero, Avalara, Gusto, Brex, Float, Shopify, A2X or equivalents.
Experience with ecommerce accounting and reconciliations, including platforms such as Shopify, A2X, Stripe, and PayPal, preferred.
Strong grasp of intercompany accounting, FX translation, and inventory cost accounting.
Analytical thinker with attention to detail and a bias for action.
Excellent communicator who can break down complex data for cross-functional teams.
Comfortable wearing many hats and working independently in a fast-moving environment.
