Job description

Who we are

At illumin, we are transforming the advertising landscape. Our platform offers an integrated space for journey planning, execution, and reporting. It empowers marketers to connect with their audiences in powerful ways through real-time data and easy-to-use visual tools. By seamlessly combining media planning and buying in an intuitive interface, marketers can take complete control of their campaigns, meeting customers wherever they are in the buying journey and maximizing the impact of their ad spend through personalized insights for smarter decision-making.

We are at a pivotal moment, evolving into a product-led company with a team of over 100 skilled professionals and new leadership guiding our path forward. By harnessing the power of data, advancing our AI capabilities, and deeply investing in our people, we are preparing for a future that will redefine what’s possible in journey advertising.

Our work is guided by two beliefs: that the ability to execute is paramount to success and that we are only as good as our people. As we grow and transform, we are looking for team members (illumineers) who share our bias for speed, delivery over perfection, and an entrepreneurial mindset. Joining us now is a chance to be part of our transformation.

Who we need

Reporting to the Controller, we are seeking a Senior Accountant to oversee revenue and receivables, procurement, treasury, cash management, and period-end closing processes for our fastest growing division. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records while supporting our growing operations.

This is a full-time, hybrid position, working in our Toronto office on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

What’s in it for you

Autonomy and ownership. This is a mission-critical role shaping financial processes, making decisions, and implementing strategies. It is an opportunity to take ownership of your deliverables and approach your department as a business unit you are leading. Your insights will drive accuracy and efficiency across accounting operations, contributing directly to the financial health of the organization.

Balance. Working at illumin is a chance to make a measurable impact, while achieving a fulfilling work-life balance. This is a place where who you are and your obligations beyond your role are respected.

Career development. At illumin, we are dedicated to pushing the boundaries to improve and reach our full potential, both as individuals and as a company. We believe in developing our people and providing them with the tools, mentorship, and resources they need to thrive. You will have opportunities to expand your skills and experience, with potential to take on additional responsibilities as we continue to evolve.

How you will make an impact

  • Manage day-to-day financial operations. You will manage full accounts payable and accounts receivable cycles, from invoicing through to payment. You will prepare and reconcile customer balances, assisting with or performing collection activities as needed. You will execute daily treasury activities, including posting and monitoring bank account transactions, managing vendor bills, and processing customer invoices. You will format and execute electronic disbursements, such as wires and EFTs/ACHs, as required.
  • Lead period-end processes. You will reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts on a timely basis for month-end closing. You will participate in the month-end close process, including accurately recording weekly cash activity to the general ledger. You will prepare internal financial reporting packages summarizing monthly results and proactively identify issues and opportunities to improve the quality and timeliness of the month-end close. You will manage certain accounts and perform month-end journal entries.
  • Ensure compliance and control. You will comply with internal control requirements in daily activities, assisting with the implementation of controls to ensure proper management of cash receipts, disbursements, and treasury activities. You will assist with internal (SOX) and external audit requests. You will ensure that the company complies with financial, tax, and legal regulations.
  • Be a key point of contact. You will respond to and fulfil daily operational requirements, settlements, and investigative audit requests. You will communicate regularly with business partners, including those located remotely, providing timely updates on financial matters.
  • Support forecasting and analysis. You will assist the management team in preparing financial forecasts, performing analysis to identify trends, and providing recommendations to improve financial performance.
  • Contribute to team success. You will perform other duties on the Finance team as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and initiative to support evolving business needs.

What you bring:

  • The expertise. You are an intermediate-level finance professional with experience in accounting and financial reporting environments, and you may be coming from a Big Four public accounting firm or a finance team in the industry. You have experience working in a finance function and may have experience at managing full accounting cycle. You have an accounting designation (CPA, CA), or are currently working towards your designation.
  • The technical skills. You have a solid understanding of accounting principles and practices. Experience using an accounting ERP system such as NetSuite is an asset.
  • The attention to detail. You have a high attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy. You possess sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills. You can identify key issues and creatively and strategically overcome internal and external challenges. You are self-motivated and proactive in managing your workload and professional development.
  • Communication and problem solving skills. You communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing. You demonstrate high work ethics, integrity, and accountability. You thrive in autonomous roles and can collaborate effectively within and across teams. You are flexible in working hour arrangements to accommodate business partners in different time zones.
