Responsibilities

  • Prepare accounting/tax engagements: personal and corporate tax returns, compilations, reviews and audits with disclosures
  • Attend client meetings and build strong client relationships
  • Assist with training for new students
  • Manage multiple deadlines throughout the year
  • Provide coaching and development of mentees
  • Prepare and present technical sessions to firm staff
  • Understand engagement financials: time budgets, WIP variances and billings
  • Stay current on accounting standards and tax laws
  • Complete CRA filings including HST and respond to CRA inquiries

We at Baker Tilly are seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to join our growing team. This position would work closely with all levels within the firm and would be working towards building strong client relationships.

Your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Preparing an array of accounting/tax engagements such as personal tax returns, corporate tax returns, compilation, review and audit engagements including detailed client financial statement disclosures.
  • Sitting in on client meetings, communicating regularly with clients to learn their business needs and building those strong client relationships
  • Assisting with training for new students
  • Managing various deadlines throughout the year
  • Provide support, coaching and development of mentees.
  • Preparation and presentation of technical sessions to firm staff
  • Understanding the impact of engagement financials including time budgets, work in process variances and billings
  • Staying up to date on relevant accounting standards and changing tax laws
  • Completing various CRA filings for clients as needed including HST and responding to CRA calls.
A successful candidate will have:
  • Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Designation, is a student in the CPA program or has relevant work experience in a firm environment.
  • 2-5 years of experience in the accounting field (experience with review and audit engagements would be considered an asset)
  • High proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Experience with Caseware and TaxPrep softwares considered an asset
  • Excellent attention to detail and project management skills
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work both independently and demonstrated ability to work with other's effectively as part of a team
  • Understanding of a client-focused fast paced work environment and the ability to effectively pivot between tasks, prioritize and manage deliverables to meet conflicting deadlines
