Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant assists the Finance team with the reporting and analysis of various accounts within the London Drugs Group of Companies. This role is highly GL intensive and involves parsing through large amounts of data for multiple legal entities and reconciling several accounts. It is important to have sharp technical skills, a high degree of discipline, attention to detail as this position involves multiple tight deadlines and accounting for GL transactions for various companies in different industries.

This position will work closely with the team of Financial Analysts and Staff and Senior Accountants to ensure timely close of monthly, quarterly, and annual processes. From time to time, the Senior Accountant may be requested to represent and support the Finance team on special projects and assist management as circumstances arise, gaining supervisory experience.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  1. Timely and accurate reconciliation of GL accounts, preparation of audit working papers, variance analysis, and other duties as assigned.
  2. Protect and maintain confidentiality of all financial and operational information.
  3. Complex account reconciliations for both Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss accounts, providing comparison against prior years and budgets.
  4. Create and maintain continuity schedules for select GL accounts.
  5. Prepare reconciliation of intercompany accounts, summarize, prepare, and post journal entries for related party transactions.
  6. Assist with the preparation of mid-year and annual audit working papers and work closely with the Finance team and auditors to ensure deliverables are completed in a timely manner.
  7. Perform detailed and summarized variance analysis for various accounts to assist in month-end, quarter, and year-end closing for the group of companies.
  8. Update and maintain schedules for prepaids, accruals, leases, and other accounts for multiple entities and departments.
  9. Assist with month-end, quarter, and year-end tasks related to variance analysis, posting accruals, and capital expense reclasses.
  10. Remittance of regulatory reports for various business units.
  11. Assist with accounting and reporting requirements for all business units and any new companies added to the group.
  12. Preparation of schedules and reconciliations in support of monthly financial statement preparation.
  13. Provide monthly and annual information reporting to Statistics Canada as required.
  14. Work with management to ensure a clean and timely midyear and year-end audit, as well as regulatory audits.
  15. Support management with special projects and workflow process improvements.
Qualifications:
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Education and Knowledge:
  • Designated CPA or final stage (passed exams and working on practical experience) of being CPA in Canada.
  • Knowledge of ASPE and IFRS.
  • Experience in retail industry is an asset.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems like D365 and Peoplesoft.
