Job description

Legacy Accounting LLPstrives to deliver excellent service to small and medium-sized businesses and individuals in central Alberta.

We need to add a senior accountant to our team of dedicated staff. We are looking for a self-motivated team player with experience in public practice, and an interest in pursuing a career in client service.The position is for in-person work at either our Red Deer, AB or Didsbury, AB office.

Preference will be given to candidates with strong communication and technical skills, knowledge of CaseWare, Taxprep, and Microsoft Office and the ability to manage a client workload and relationships. Candidates with prior public practice accounting experience are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct compilation, review, and tax engagements
  • Prepare financial statements and corresponding notes
  • Apply knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE) and Accounting Standards for Not-For-Profit Organizations (ASNPO)
  • Perform analysis of complex accounting issues
  • Prepare personal, trust and corporate tax returns (and other tax compliance slips), ensuring compliance with government standards
  • Prepare year-end tax forms (T4s and T5s)
  • Complete bank and other account reconciliations
  • Prepare payroll, GST and government reports
  • Respond to client questions and queries
  • Identify technical issues and discuss with manager or engagement partner
  • Update manager or engagement partner on the progress of engagements
  • Prepare professional correspondence, technical reports, client summaries and presentations outlining findings, facts and highlights resulting from the client engagement
  • Set-up files for new clients and newly incorporated businesses
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Legacy’s services and the businesses and industries we serve.
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes
  • Lead engagement teams while coaching and mentoring junior team members

  • Strong computer literacy, including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Office 365
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience working with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and Accounting Standards for Not-For-Profit Organizations (ASNPO,) with a strong working knowledge of corporate and personal income taxes

Required qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce or Business Administration
  • Completion of Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or working towards a CPA designation
  • 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience in public practice in Canada

Compensation & Benefits

  • The expected salary for this position is $55,000-$70,000 per year for 1,820 hours (plus overtime paid at time and half) and is based on the applicant’s skills and experience.
  • Employee benefits are available after a three-month probation period. Benefits include Alberta Blue Cross, Health Spending account and life insurance.
