Qualifications

Responsibilities

Senior Accountant

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance and accounting team. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for supporting the month-end and year-end close processes, preparing financial statements and account reconciliations, analyzing financial data, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of accounting records.

The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders, auditors, and management and will play an important role in improving financial reporting and accounting processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and support the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and adjusting entries.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and management reporting packages.
• Perform detailed general ledger analysis and investigate variances.
• Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and accruals.
• Prepare bank and other key account reconciliations.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Analyze financial results and provide explanations for significant variances.
• Support the preparation of year-end audit schedules and liaise with external auditors.
• Ensure compliance with applicable accounting policies, standards, and internal controls.
• Assist with GST/HST, sales tax, and other statutory reporting as required.
• Review accounting transactions for accuracy and completeness.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting.
• Support finance-related projects, system implementations, and process improvements.
• Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff.
• Perform other accounting and financial analysis duties as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
• Experience with full-cycle accounting and month-end close.
• Strong Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
• Experience with an ERP/accounting system such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics, or similar.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Experience

• Public accounting or audit experience.
• Experience working in a manufacturing, automotive, distribution, or other complex operational environment.
• Experience with inventory accounting and cost accounting.
• Experience with internal controls and audit processes.
• Experience preparing financial statements and supporting external audits.
