Job description

The Municipal Group of Companies, based in Bedford Nova Scotia, is a large, diversified organization engaged in all major aspects of heavy civil construction, mining, transportation, and environmental services within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently seeking the qualifications and expertise of a Senior Accountant based out of Moncton, NB.

Job Summary

The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting and monthly reporting as you will be responsible for the month-end processes for several companies. You will be the first point of contact for all things finance related for the operations team. You will work closely with management and other accounting team staff. You must be able to prioritize, coordinate, and organize business tasks. You will have a positive, professional approach in planning, scheduling, communicating, and organizing the activities of your position.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Preparation of monthly journal entries, reconciliations, and financial working papers
  • Produce monthly financial statements & management reports supported by analysis and commentary in a timely manner
  • Assist in coaching and developing other accounting staff
  • Provide analytical, forecasting and project support to senior management
  • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process
  • Coordinate year-end audit requirements and communication with external auditors
  • Help with various process improvement projects as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, And Experience

  • CPA Designation or working towards a designation
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced skills in Excel, working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Strong knowledge of accounting and controls
  • Superior organization and time management skills
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage several tasks at one time in a deadline-driven environment
