Job description

Position Overview

Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of Encore Canada's financial data. This includes auditing commission calculations, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, preparing financial reports, assisting with audit and tax preparations, and other accounting duties as assigned. The role also involves managing special projects across all areas of accounting to meet management’s needs. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential for managing the monthly volume of transactions effectively.

Key Job Responsibilities

Month End Close

  • Complete journal entries for all assigned areas within the close calendar deadlines.
  • Maintain schedules and post accruals for month-end reporting, including revenue-based venue incentives.
  • Analyze results to identify issues and contribute to timely resolutions.

Account Analysis and Reconciliations

  • Research and analyze income statement and general ledger accounts as requested by hotel directors and management.
  • Correct issues such as miscoding or improperly booked entries.
  • Perform account reconciliations for parts of the balance sheet as assigned.
  • Support reconciliation of commission for venues and third-party contracts.

Accounting Support

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the General Accounting Department.
  • Prepare information for tax returns and assist with audit preparations.
  • Contribute to developing new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures.
  • Support maintenance of financial and billing systems, including chart of accounts and commission structures.

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum BA in Accounting or Finance.
  • 3-5 years of experience in an accounting department.
  • Knowledge of all accounting functions and principles (Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, General Ledger).
  • Expertise in Excel.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • CPA program enrollment or completion is an asset.
