The Carrington Group of Companies in Edmonton, AB is seeking a Senior Accountant to support financial analysis, month-end close, and regulatory compliance. This role reports to the Corporate Controller - Rentals and involves general ledger maintenance, journal entries, reconciliations, and the preparation of financial packages for executives.

Ideal candidates have a post-secondary accounting credential, five years of experience, strong Excel skills, and familiarity with property management

Qualifications

• Post-secondary credential in accounting, business, finance, or related field.
• Yardi Voyager experience is required.
• Minimum five years of accounting in a medium to large organization.
• Experience with financial analysis and budgets.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Maintain consistent and accurate general ledgers for all business units.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations and analyses.
• Handle full cycle accounting including month-end close processes.
• Calculate and file GST returns for multiple entities.
• Assist with budgeting and compare actuals to budgets.
• Investigate variances and potential financial/operational issues.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial packages with supporting docs for Executives.
• Prepare financial reports to meet lender and regulatory requirements.
• Perform other finance department duties as assigned.

About the Position:

Reporting to the Corporate Controller - Rentals, the Senior Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the preparation of analysis and reporting of financial information, along with assisting with reconciliations, and dealing with regulatory and compliance matters.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain consistent and accurate general ledgers for all business units
• Preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations and analysis
• Responsibility for full cycle accounting including month end close processes
• Calculate and file GST returns for various companies including GST self-assessment and rebate claims
• Assist with the budgeting process and comparing actual financial results against budgets
• Investigate financial variances and potential financial operational issues
• Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial packages with supporting documentation for Executives
• Assist with the preparation of various financial reports to meet the compliance requirements of our lenders and other federal or provincial regulatory bodies
• Other projects and duties within the finance department as assigned

Qualifications:

• Post-secondary diploma, degree, or certificate in accounting, business, finance, or a related field
• Professional Accounting Designation would be considered an asset
• Minimum five (5) years’ of accounting experience in a medium to large organization required
• Experience in property management and working knowledge of Yardi Voyager is required
• Experience with financial analysis and budgets required
• Ability to identify areas of improvement within financial practices to create standardized policies and procedures required
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel experience required
• Must express initiative, good judgment and foster a positive work atmosphere.
• Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
