JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Senior Accountant

DEPARTMENT: Finance, Accounting

REPORTING: Director of Finance

TERM: Contract 12 months

SUMMARY:

As a Senior Accountant, you are analytical and procedural in your day-to-day activities. You assist NCSA to track and produce financial reporting for all grants and contracted programs. You also manage the Grant and Contract Module within Sage, working with NCSA Directors. You are dependable, a team player, and the company trusts your ability to prepare and analyze financial documents. Duties and responsibilities of a Senior Accountant include:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of Indigenous communities, cultures, healing, and language
  • Demonstrable knowledge of historic trauma and the impact of colonization on Indigenous people
  • Previous experience with accounting software preferred: Great Plains, Sage Intact, and ADP
  • Experience in general accounting and generally accepted accounting principles, operating procedures, and/or appropriate regulations preferred
  • Knowledge of historical trauma to Indigenous peoples and its effects on their lives and community
  • Ability to represent NCSA in a professional manner
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Valid Driver’s License with no restrictions
  • Ability to pass a police criminal and background check

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide financial grant report scheduling and preparation for Directors
  • Manage contract and grant module within Sage: data entry, review, and reporting
  • Advanced Excel skills: pivots, VLOOKUPs
  • Using the highest standards and practices to ensure financial documents comply with the law, GAAP, and policy
  • Collecting and verifying financial information
  • Maintaining a general ledger by inputting daily financial transactions
  • Supporting other finance staff
  • Resolving financial problems, performing audits, and finding solutions
  • Preparing account reconciliations and lead sheets
  • Year-end preparation
  • Support to Director of Finance
  • Other duties as assigned
