Job description

Recruiter Avisar Chartered Professional Accountants

  • We are highly functioning team that treats each other with care and respect. Every one of our team members will tell you it's a pleasure to come to work each day (and no one steals anyone's food from the communal fridge!)
  • We have high standards for ourselves and our team. We are going to continue to provide constructive, fair and diplomatic feedback for as long as you work here.
  • Our busy season (February to April and June) is pretty demanding so there is usually the opportunity to bank some overtime, and we generally don't allow vacations to be booked during those months.
  • The summer months are generally quieter in the office so our team is encouraged to take their vacations in July, August and September.
  • When the going gets tough, we handle it as a team. No one in this firm is left to shoulder the load alone, ever.
  • We will never stop asking for your feedback. We may not act on every suggestion, but we mean it when we say, we want to hear them all!
  • The only thing that stays the same at Avisar is the fact that everything is changing. This role (really any role here) is not suited to someone that is change averse or prefers an environment where you continue to do things the way they have always been done.
Let's talk about working at Avisar:
  • We are highly functioning team that treats each other with care and respect. Every one of our team members will tell you it's a pleasure to come to work each day (and no one steals anyone's food from the communal fridge!)
  • We have high standards for ourselves and our team. We are going to continue to provide constructive, fair and diplomatic feedback for as long as you work here.

  • The only thing that stays the same at Avisar is the fact that everything is changing. This role (really any role here) is not suited to someone that is change averse or prefers an environment where you continue to do things the way they have always been done.
Now let's talk about the Senior Accountant role at Avisar:
  • Senior Accountants are responsible for completing the file work on simple and complex engagements.
  • They are involved in engagement planning, including budgets, information requests and client follow up.
  • As a mentee, they work with Avisar's managers, senior managers and partners to gain the knowledge and skills for eventual promotion to management positions.
  • As a mentor, they work with accounting students currently pursuing CPA designation.
  • Their work is dynamic, a little bit challenging and varies greatly from season to season.
Okay, so what skills do you need to succeed in this role:

Technical Competencies:
  • CPA designation, or experience plus successfully written the CFE
  • 2 years Assurance experience, preparing review and/or audit engagements
Enabling Competencies:
  • Communication, communication, communication - In case saying it three times was not enough, you are going to need exceptional all-around communication skills in this role.
  • Emotional intelligence - The ability to understand, use, and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict will give you the tools you need to be an effective member of Avisar's team.
  • Computer skills - These accountants threw out the ledger paper and pencils a long time ago! You'll need to be savvy with Microsoft 365 and navigating the internet, and willing to learn Caseware, TaxCycle and all the other necessary software we use in our "less-paper" office environment.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset - Your natural ability to identify and make the most of the opportunities available to you and the willingness to overcome and learn from the setbacks you face will lend itself to your long-term success at Avisar.
  • Attention to detail - Accounting requires a meticulous eye for details and the ability to think critically about what's in front of you. This team would rather you do the work once and do it right than rush through and have to do it over again.
  • Organizational effectiveness - you're going to get messy projects and you're going to be interrupted while you're trying to complete them. Being able to stay organized and on task in the face of a little chaos is essential in this role.
The nitty gritty:
  • This is an in-office position with an expected start date of September 9, 2025. After the three month probationary period a hybrid work arrangement may be considered.
  • We work a 37.5-hour week with the office open to the public during standard business hours - Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm.
  • Compensation is based on experience within the range of $70k - $90k per year, with three weeks of vacation, and extended health and dental benefits.
